The only phrase I know in German is 'I love you' which is ………. Eek liven dish mine darlin' Think we should all learn 'I love you' in every language ……...
We owe a lot to those incredible men who fought for our freedom...they'd be turning in their graves to see Britain Government cow-towing to Germany now..... I lived in Germany for a while, and can speak a very small smattering of German... the people we encountered were Polite but very standoffish... they do say that the German people are the most like the British than any other county..
You are mistaken Where the Americans helping us with fighting men Where the Russian helping with fighting. IN 1940 We stood alone IN 1940 with thanks to good the help of Commonwealth. Canada. West Indies India. Poland. Oz land New Zealand. All British. America no were to be seen in 1940.
So harsh a statement? Don't want to go into detail but under "alone" I understand something different.
It's all true what you say @Tom Galty , and thank God,but in fact to be fair there's no reason the USA should have got involved in the early days, it was a European war!!.... Once Non Europeans got involved , Japan etc...then it was game on for the Americans they didn't hesitate to help, I'm proud of the USA for that .... We were a mighty nation, for our size, and our fathers , grandfathers and ancestors fought the fight of their lives there's no doubt about that... help from for not only our own wonderful British Sovereign nations as you stated who fought on this Island's behalf, but The Americans, and all Non British servicemen/women who gave their lives and came to aid us in Victory!!! I''m not sure anyone would do the same for us today tbh!!
9 Americans joined the RAF in 1940 under threat of treason to help us 8 died in the Battle of Britain when we stood alone. The 9th died in early 1941. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eagle_Squadrons https://www.historylearningsite.co....in/american-pilots-and-the-battle-of-britain/
The U.S. was neutral until 1941 but that said, no matter how many or how few soldiers were fighting in 1940 defending England, they just didn’t point their fingers and go “bang”. The things that really go bang come from somewhere as well as the materials that make those things that go bang come from somewhere. Merchant supply ships from all over were being sunk by the Germans costing someone thousands of lives, food and war making materials. Without looking it up, I do wonder how much money was lent to England to help with the war effort? It is possible that England was totally self sufficient as was Germany at the time but...........?
Again, without doing the research, I imagine the idea of loans coming via the Rothchilds would have enhanced the prospect of loans coming through the U.S. or other countries instead. Although it’s one of the richest if not the richest banking systems in the world especially at that time, any business with them would have also given more financial strength to Germany who again, was as close to being war time self sufficient as a country could possibly be. Oh, and about the loan? Heck, we still owe ya’ll a debt of gratitude for letting us use the English language until we developed the “Merican language which, is still an ongoing process.
Not just money. Even in the Battle of Britain 1940 "no less than one-fifth of the Royal Air Force's 2,927 pilots were not in fact British. There were many from the Commonwealth nations, including 101 New Zealanders and 94 Canadians. The remainder included 147 Poles and 88 Czechoslovaks plus 29 Belgians, 14 Frenchmen, 10 Irishmen, seven Americans, and even a Palestinian." Standing "alone" is a different thing.
