I like all my social supports and programs and with all the social help I'm making it pretty nicely to 81 soon.

A friend is now tangled up in getting Medicare as he chose NOT too when he turned 65 and now at close to 80, he wants it. So the fight goes on to get it with all the penalties attached to it.

I have to presume all you against socialism don't take social security and medicare and don't drive our country's highways, nor use fire and police and postal services, Right?

Yes, they do and govt pays a lot too. Taxes have to go a long long way if that's all our country depends on, who pays for FEMA, hurricanes, earthquakes, tornados, my taxes?

What is your idea of socialism? I'd love to hear it.

And who picks up where the tax dodgers take off. There are a few out there.

And then there is years of talk about SS system almost broke. So govt does keep printing when they have to.

Socialism is expensive and inefficient. Just look at the Post Office & Medicare. My preference is to have the Private Sector handle many of the present social programs. If government was run like Amazon & Google we would be in great shape.

Oh I don't believe I'm reading this Lon, you have had a terrible life with your mail delivery and medicare? I have NOT. Maybe you need to drop out of Medicare if it's so bad, and maybe you are not even in it.

Reading a lot of your posts, I get an impression of a pretty good life so I guess you didn't use social programs. ummmmm

The fact that I receive Medicare & have had no problems with it does not mean it is not inefficient and horribly expensive for present and future tax payers. I received excellent health care and had no problem with the costs BEFORE I WAS EVER ELIGIBLE FOR MEDICARE.

As for the POST OFFICE------I'll take AMAZON.COM

I've had good health care all my life too and from employers as I worked 40 yrs and hardly paid a penny and didn't use it very much at all, thank goodness. Today I pay something like $135/mo for Medicare and no supplement as I can't even afford that nor do I go to doctors a lot and when I needed more benefits for a hip surgery, I worked things out with doctors. There is always a way.

Maybe Amazon will get involved with health insurance and that will solve it all. And then of course when the robots start delivering everything, things will all be better too, right.

Taxes are the single largest factor in federal revenue. Do you think the feds sell stuff on Ebay and operate a lemonade stand to make money?

Federal revenue comes from three major sources:
    1. Income taxes paid by individuals: $1.48 trillion, or 47% of all tax revenues.
    2. Payroll taxes paid jointly by workers and employers: $1.07 trillion, 34% of all tax revenues.
    3. Corporate income taxes paid by businesses: $341.7 billion, or 11% of all tax revenues.
There are also a handful of other types of taxes, like customs duties and excise taxes that make up much smaller portions of federal revenue. Customs duties are taxes on imports, paid by the importer, while excise taxes are taxes levied on specific goods, like gasoline.

Thanks Beth, but I've been around long enough to know about taxes...been paying into the system over 60 yrs.

Still have not heard from you what socialism is in your mind.

Socialism in my mind is thinking about Government owning, controlling and administering T00 MANY THINGS that I prefer the PRIVATE SECTOR handle.
