Amazing Ken how you can say that with such authority. Truly amazing you know so much of what the past could have been. As I scratch my brain and memory, this country was in a pretty deep depression when B.O. took office. There was talk going on about comparing it somewhat to the great depression, not quite, but talk. The history books will reveal some truths hopefully.
Maybe some need reminders. For some reason people conveniently forget this country was headed for the deepest depression since the great depression. Another one in the works ... The Administration is siding with Texas in a court case to have Obamacare declared unconstitutional. This would also affect Medicaid expansion and coverage for pre-existing conditions. Lawsuit Texas v. Azar (HHS Secretary) was filed in February 2018 by Texas and 19 other states. The plaintiffs argue that because the individual mandate was an essential part of the ACA, and it is now gone, the entire law should be declared unconstitutional. A Texas judge ruled in favor of Texas, sending the lawsuit up to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. The U.S. Department of Justice stated in a recent court filing that it would not defend ACA in the litigation. This is unusual, because the federal government typically defends federal law. Oral arguments at the Fifth Circuit should take place in July, 2019. Forbes, Vox, Updates
No one in their right mind would say that Obama didn’t do anything just that the majority of what he managed to do was wrong. Perhaps, stuffing his pockets was a pretty good trick so I’ll give him that and oh.......the Obama phone. Can’t forget the Obama phone. I can forget the cash for clunkers and maybe even the race riots And the gazillions of bucks he gave out to other countries but nope, not the Obama phone. And, I’ll even forget about his stance on mandating fines on people who couldn’t afford his health care plan and how about the billions he sent Iran or the terrorists he traded for a deserter or the Benghazi debacle or bowing to every dictator in the world , or, or.......Hey, I forgot what else he did! Wow! Oh yeah, he brought us the Obama phone.
Oh yes, maybe everything wasn't perfect, but he did not attempt to bring us Obama Water. Do what you want to do with this info, I"m not going to argue. He did a LOT of good, just bringing the country out of near depression was ENOUGH in my mind. There was a lot of fear going on in a lot of people's lives and that was so long ago people forget and saying Donald is the reason for the good times now, hogwash.
@Nancy Hart My wife had to go on Obamacare for 2 years, until she turned 65, then Medicare. It was a sadly deficient process and experience, which greatly opened our eyes to government waste. Her annual premiums were just under $10,000 dollars, first year they hit us for $600, second year zero. Those 20,000 taxpayer dollars yielded benefit completely to someone else; we had no medical claims. Not sure if we were typical or not, but certainly others in the same low income bracket were similar, perhaps millions of people. Frank
I believe you, Frank. It's complicated. I knew already everyone on here hated it. .. Thank you for being polite about it. I was prepared for the usual dismissive comment. It was a State of the Union promise not to drop pre-existing conditions requirements.
Well, if one wants to get bug eyed and try to break it all down, go at it. It's quite complicated and not cut and dry. http://thelifehistory.com/barack-obama-life-history-accomplishments-achievements-awards/ I still am happy the Obamas will be in our history books.
This is an excellent post but, since I want to respond to it, my response would take this discussion of onto another track so I am moving his post and my replies to separate thread, in the history section. - How Does History Deal With Slavery?
29% of people in Alaska are covered by the Medicaid Expansion and it is bankrupting the state, despite the promise that the Feds would pick up the bulk of the cost. Many or most of those people were already covered under other programs, such as Indian Health Service. We are unique in that someone with a chronic serious disease can live 200 miles or more from the nearest healthcare facility (not necessarily one that can address their issue. Medicaid has to pick up the airfare from the small village to a "hub" village, usually by small private charter, where the patient is either treated or loaded onto a jet for transport to a major town or city, such as Anchorage or Fairbanks. If facilities are not adequate there, the patient is again loaded onto another plane for transport to Seattle (usually). The kicker is that this can be repeated every month for years, all at taxpayer expense, and there is no way to require these patients to relocate closer to a healthcare facility adequate for their needs.
It’s okay Joy! Yes, Obama is in the history books and before the now sitting president of the U.S., Donald Trump who is also in the history books gets out of office, I do honestly believe that your buddy BHO, Clinton, Holder and others will have a lot of ‘splaining to do to the Department of Justice and the American people. They might all just lose a big chunk of change when it’s been found out how they all got so rich whilst in office. And the “bug eyed” thing? I really do not get bug eyed when it comes to math or just about any subject. Now, if ya wanna see “bug eyed”, take a look at some of those pics of AOC......sheesh! Bottom line is....... Bring it on Lucy. Do be a good student of higher learning and show me how your hero didn’t have a hand in dragging the American people, of which I am one, further down the financial slope to a near futile level.
