The City of Boston can't stop a much-debated "Straight Pride Parade" from taking place this summer just because people disagree with the organizers' cause, Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said Thursday. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/b...de-over-its-values/ar-AACv7J8?ocid=spartandhp As for myself, I'd never heard of, until I read this article about the Boston parade, that there was such a thing called Straight Pride. There hero is Brad Pitt.
The ABCDXYZ groups only account for a very small amount of the population but when the 90+% of the population want a day the small group with a big mouth gets upset. Go normal people have your day.
Much ado about nothing. The claim is that the Straight Pride group are white supremacists... what a shocker. We white people are just troublemakers. I need to just go ahead and buy that MAGA hat I've been eyeing.
I'm having trouble figuring out why anyone would take pride in their sexual identity, whatever it might be. Whatever your sexual identity, is it really a personal accomplishment?
I tried to make a response 3 times and had to erase it due to my inability to make a politically correct statement. There is a thin line between wanting to be accepted, because everyone should be, and just pushing too far.
I have that same problem, Bess. Seems like as a straight, caucasian, mostly conservative person I no longer have a voice in society. Special interest groups can say or do anything they like, but my voice is stilled or I am labeled "intolerant" or "racist."
@Beth Gallagher As Yul Brynner said, "And so it shall be written." Thus, we "90 per-centers" must "weather" each new P. C. storm in relative silence, though all the while thinking a heap. Like the guy hauling frozen dynamite bound for use in building the Hoosac Tunnel: "The Hoosac Tunnel (also called Hoosic or Hoosick Tunnel) is a 4.75-mile (7.64 km) active railroadtunnel in western Massachusetts that passes through the Hoosac Range, an extension of Vermont's Green Mountains." "Construction also featured the first large-scale commercial use of nitroglycerin and electric blasting caps and the first such use in the United States." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoosac_Tunnel#Technology The Hoosac Tunnel Guide
Same with "proud to be American, or Canadian or whatever" In my mind pride is something that is a result of a personal accomplishment, not just something that just "is"
Yeah, I guess it is the equivalent. I agree though, that pride should be over something you have accomplished. Perhaps the accidental things should be phrased, "not ashamed of," as in "I am not ashamed of being white," "I am not ashamed of being straight," or "I am not ashamed of my Swedish heritage." People shouldn't be made to be ashamed of such things but, at the same time, it doesn't make sense to feel pride over something you had nothing to do with.
