1400 Troops, 400 Military Musicians, and 200 Horses... left to right, Charles, William, Andrew & Anne...
The Sovereign's birthday is officially celebrated by the ceremony of Trooping the Colour (Queen's Birthday Parade). This impressive display of pageantry takes place on a Saturday in June by her personal troops, the Household Division, on Horse Guards Parade, with Her Majesty the Queen herself attending and taking the salute. Over 1400 officers and men are on parade, together with two hundred horses; over four hundred musicians from ten bands and corps of drums march and play as one. Some 113 words of command are given by the Officer in Command of the Parade. The parade route extends from Buckingham Palace along The Mall to Horse Guards Parade, Whitehall and back again. During the ceremony, The Queen is greeted by a Royal salute and carries out an inspection of the troops. After the massed bands have performed a musical 'troop', the escorted Regimental Colour is carried down the ranks. The Foot Guards and the Household Cavalry then march past Her Majesty, and The King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery, rank past. The Queen rides in a carriage back to Buckingham Palace at the head of her Guards, before taking the salute at the Palace from a dais. The troops then return to barracks. Her Majesty then joins other members of the Royal Family on the palace balcony for a fly-past by the Royal Air Force. The first Trooping the Colour which is reviewed by The Major General usually takes place two weeks before the actual Birthday Parade. The second Trooping the Colour which is reviewed by The Colonel of the Regiment usually takes place a week before the actual Birthday Parade.
I believe the only UK Monarch who has been on the throne longer was Queen Victoria. (I could verify this on Google, but I don't feel like it.) "Walk wide of the Widow at Windsor, for half of Creation she owns! We have bought her the same with the Sword and the Flame, And have salted it down with our Bones!" (Kipling) Hal
You believe wrong...Elizabeth has out reigned her great great grandmother by 4 years as of this date.... Our queen has served for over 67 years... Victoria was 63 years...
I am going to delete Martin’s post from this thread, @Holly Saunders . It is totally off-topic from what this thread is about. If you want to start a thread in the conspiracy section about the queen being arrested , that is the acceptable place for it, @Martin Alonzo . This thread is about the Queen, and President Trumps recent visit to England, not about children being kidnapped in 1964.
You are most welcome, Holly ! We object to that kind of post about our president, and I think that your queen is probably well-loved by your people, and is due the proper respect, just as we respect our president here. Having never lived with an unchanging king or queen, it is interesting and impressive for us, who have a changeover in our government every few years, and I think it is wonderful how much you all love Queen Elizabeth. I have greatly enjoyed seeing the wonderful pictures of all the pomp and ceremony that were posted here in this thread, and I do not want it to go off onto a rabbit trail. Edit to add: I have now deleted Holly’s post, per your request, @Tom Galty , unless Holly objects to the deletion.
No Objection here at all Tom & Yvonne....I never even gave it a thought that I'd quoted that nonsense ..
