I think that we have also tried a few different kinds of pillows. the shredded memory foam (called bamboo pillow)was not bad, but it was way too thick for me, although Bobby did fine with his. I have a small memory foam one that is thin and kind of kidney -shaped, and I really like it, but any memory foam seems to be hot in the summer. We saw a set of copper-infused pillows at Sam’s Club last fall and got those, and they seem to be just about right. The casing for the pillows is made from copper threads intermixed with the regular threads, and copper is supposed to help with neck pain. It is much thinner than the bamboo pillow (made like the My Pillow), and has soft memory foam inside of it. I would really like to try one of those gel pillows because they are supposed to be cooler in the summer, but since they are covered in plastic, I am not sure that it would be comfortable sleeping on one, even with the pillowcase. Okay, I just looked up the pillows we have and they are called a gel-foam, so I guess that they are a gel pillow after all. Here is the description from Sam’s Club.
Must have tried all different types of pillow - but not the copper type. Much better last night on me 'garbage bag' but a little too full, made the pillow firmer. So today, we folded over the top and pinned with a row of safety pins - at least it looks better
I have a variety of pillows to choose from. I generally use the down pillows unless my vertigo is out of wack. Then, I'll use a contour one. I want one of those 'My Pillow' like my friend has, but too cheap to pay $45 for it.
My wife and I each have one. Actually, she has two. We like them quite a lot. They do go on sale from time to time, but maybe the sale prices only go to those who have already bought one. I just threw an ad away offering one for $25 because I don't need another one.
Hi Bess and welcome Sorry to hear you have vertigo as I do. I can't take pressure on the body, especially not on the ears, which is why I can't use a contour pillow and avoid sleeping on my back. I hope you get to try 'my pillow' I've never seen that over here (England)
The Pillow Throughout History (LINK) "Pillows are synonymous with comfort and relaxation. They are a cushion for the head and neck, providing support and a good night’s sleep. However, in the past, pillows weren’t exactly the soft headrest they are today." "The history of the pillow dates back to around 7,000 BC in ancient Mesopotamia, modern day Iraq. These pillows were made of stone and obviously weren’t comfortable, although comfort wasn’t really their purpose." "The function of the stone pillow was to prevent insects from crawling into mouths, noses, and ears. With the high price of stone, they were used only by the wealthy citizens." It was generally agreed that the jade pillow increased one’s intelligence. While the Chinese had the ability to make soft pillows, they believed they stole energy from the body while sleeping. The Chinese supported the idea that hard pillows bring health and intellect.
