Took time for av reality check this morning. The ceiling is 8' 4", so a single 4" flex drain pipe will do. I returned the 3" sections and picked up some Pool Noodles at the Dollar Tree. I have decided to use gravel to weight the containers. Bought some gorilla tape to wrap around the trunk.
I plan to begin, by adding a simplified version of Sky, Surf & Sand to the 3 windows. Maybe using bubble wrap on the surf, and colored paper for the sand , sky and clouds. Then I will add the trees in front of the windows.
Located in Kaneohe Bay, off O’ahu Island in Hawaii , Coconut Island is a well established marine research facility operated by Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology of University of Hawaii.
In these kind of projects, I find that the scope of the initial idea is larger than the actual size of the physical site! Maybe it's the untempered enthusiasm of the blast off? Another example is the size of a coconut....I always picture them as being huge. Well, today at Walmart, as we hit the produce area, I asked about fresh coconuts....and there they were....so I bought one, only to find it was the same size as the coconut cups that I found in the Dollar Store. (I bought another dozen the other day). Now my question is how do I go about opening the coconut....my machete is in the shop!
This morning was a nice quiet, overcast kind of morning, so I worked on my containers. I am thinking that three palm trees will look better than four. I am also re-thinking using cement for weight. I attached the containers to the posts and bases. I will place the 4" flex pipe over the post, screw it to the post with a pool noodle taped to the post. I will screw the "trunk to the bottom of the post. When the trunk is positioned, I will add cement. I think it will grip and anchor the tree better than gravel. (They may be permanent trees, and end up inside)
