Uh, labor and environmental concerns are Not the only reasons to offshore products because taxation also has a definite impact.
The U.S. was taxing industries upward of 39% whereby one of our closest neighbors, Canada stands at around 26%. I think it was Burger King who re-homed it’s headquarters from the U.S. to Canada 3 or 4 years ago just because of the taxation rates.
Under this administration, the tax rate for industry has been dropped and sometimes even negated for a period of time and there’s legislation on the books to allow companies who wish to come back to the U.S. to do so without the penalties the former administrations threatened those businesses with.
Leveling the playing field on this end plus adding a tariff to those products coming in is just added incentive to either come back or for some like Ford, to reconsider their stance on building a plant in Mexico.

When it comes to tariffs & trade

    Liberals have feelings and emotion.

Conservatives have: logic, history, perspective, science, reason, facts, math, principles, ethics, values, dialogue & common sense.

Why the U.S.-China trade deficit is so huge: Here’s all the stuff America imports
    Jeffry Bartash,MarketWatch 18 hours ago

The simmering trade war between the U.S. and China has led both sides to raise tariffs, but the lopsided trade relationship between the two countries means the impact will fall heaviest on Chinese producers and American consumers and farmers. The U.S. imported a record $539.5 billion in goods from China in 2018. The U.S. is a net importer from China in most market segments such as consumer electronics, apparel, furniture and industrial supplies.

By contrast, the U.S. shipped a much smaller $120.3 billion in goods to China last year, Census trade figures showed.

Exports to China fell from almost $130 billion in 2017 as buyers shunned American soy and corn. U.S. farm exports to China fell to $5.9 billion in 2018 from $15.9 billion in the prior year.
President Trump has raised or in the process of hiking tariffs on virtually all goods imported from China because talks to resolve disputes over fairer trading rules have faltered. The president will meet with the Chinese leader this week to try to resolve the impasse.

The flareup rattled Wall Street last month, but stocks have since rebounded. The Dow Jones Industrial Average DJIA, +0.16% and S&P 500 SPX, +0.21% are both near record highs.

Feelings and emotions plus 3 or 4 dollars will get you a cup of coffee at McDonalds . And not much else. I doubt very much if the Chinese give a flip about Liberal's feelings and emotions.

I hope we do stop buying so much from China and start to buy MADE IN USA.

If people would be willing to pay a little more and have a little less, then this would be an easy transition and give us more jobs. Deal is, most people will whine about it because Americans have a tendency of wanting so much for so little. There was a time when we didn't need 34 pairs of jeans or a TV in every room. We were willing to pay more money for a good item produced in America. It's our own greed that got us in this mess.

I, for one, gladly pay more for Made in the USA. It's usually only a little more and it gives Americans a job.
