One of the popular topics for songs seems to be trains, maybe more so in the past than now, when more people travel by airplane or car than by bus or train; but that “lonesome whistle blowing” has been the subject of many songs. I didn’t find any threads that seemed to be an appropriate one for posting train songs, but there are some that I have enjoyed over the years, and thought that maybe other people have their favorites, too. Starting with one of my favorites by Gentleman Jim Reeves, Mr. “mellow voice” himself, and this one is about a sad train wreck.
Another great train song, this version done by John Denver, although I think the original was by Arlo Guthrie.
Trains just have a romance not equaled by any other mode of transportation other than, perhaps a "tramp steamer". I think Gordon Light foot said, "...you can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight train..."
