Already been thought of, already been tried. Reducing the financial aid to the S. American countries where the people are coming from added to Mexico’s new initiative of sending them back isn’t doing a lot to thwart nor discourage the travelers.
Without proper visa or citizenship documentation, a person can't get a license, any sort official photo ID, nor a social security card. Without these, they should not be getting any welfare assistance or a job. I think this would probably be a good place to start in weeding out who enables them. That being said, in some cases regarding the South America border, I have a respect for someone willing to go thru what many people do in order to find work and send money back to their families. Willing to work endless hours to get paid a pittance. Getting citizenship papers are not only expensive, but daunting process for a person who can't read or write english. So, I end up feeling torn in some cases and outraged in others. The big picture isn't complicated, but sometimes the individual stories are. At the end of the day though, we have to follow our immigration laws until another solution is found.
I am fine with people coming here that want to actually become part of the American society, have a job, raise their families, and serve in the military, just like most other folks do. Criminals should be deported, and not given a second chance, period, and anti-American illegals should also be refused. We have many Hispanic people here in Huntsville, and the ones we see are kind and hard-working people. The mothers are taking good care of the children, and the kids are clean and dressed neatly, which is more than we can say for some of the people we see in this neighborhood. Our next-door neighbors are Hispanic, and they are very nice people, quiet neighbors, and even brought us over some cake and Mexican food when they were celebrating a baptism of one of the children. They barely can understand English, except for the children, and we have no idea whether they are legal or not, but I would certainly support these people in becoming legal, if they are not, and wanted to do so. Compared to the LEGAL people who are drug dealers, prostitutes, and criminals, our Hispanic neighbors are much better citizens than some of the people who are from Alabama.
I agree @Yvonne Smith ! We have a neighborhood a few streets away that I would be most happy if they were replaced by Colombians.

@Lulu Moppet The post was based on an answer to the previous one alluding to "neighborhoods" undesirable because of the backgrounds of their inhabitants. A polite way of assuming those neighborhoods were off-limits to everyday hard working folk, due to their inherent dangers, criminal activity, lack of cultural diversity, in short, totally segregated racially. @Cody Fousnaugh could explain this more easily than I, should further clarification be needed. Immigrant is not a synonym for illegal immigrant. It is noble and reasonable to be in favor of immigration yet be furious about illegal immigration. But, the media and every nearly every Democrat in the country refers to the problem people as immigrants and those who are in opposition to open borders as anti-immigrant.
