The I-9 form is supposed to be the defining factor for hiring ANYONE and yes, that includes citizens.
Basically, the form calls for 2 types of identification and also has a spot for a visa or green card.
A person is not supposed to be able to be hired unless the form is filled out with the necessary documentation under penalty of law with fines up to 5K for each person working who isn’t documented properly.
Alas, employers know that no one is going to come knocking on their door to review the I-9’s and so they hire whom they wish to hire and so on....

Maybe the government should have a task force or whatever to actively check these things. It seems like one good place to start.

It would indeed. Back during the big gas crunch some years ago, federal agents were going to hotels, motels and restaurants looking at the thermostats to make sure they were in compliance with the federal mandates.
If the feds could afford to go door to door then, they can still do it now.

An unexpected result of the CV-19 pandemic closing down jobs all over America....... the illegals are now out of work, they can’t get unemployment, they have fake SS cards so they didn’t file taxes and are not eligible for the CARES benefit. They can’t pay rent, and are being evicted, with the landlord threatening to call ICE to evict them if they do not move; so they are loading up and going back to Mexico .
Our president is amazing and resourceful ! (Pardon the bad language in this meme)

This country neither the left or the right wants to do anything about undocumented immigration. Really not that hard a problem to solve.
Make I-verify the law of the land. Make the end user the responsible party, not a hiring contractor. Massive crippling fines for any violation with criminal penalties payable by the officers of a corporation.
Monitor every visa entering country, make biweekly in person reporting mandatory for all visa holders.(post office would be an ideal location)
Make every company, university, organization responsible for their sponsored aliens, and mandate immediate reporting of an alien being out of compliance with his visa restrictions.

Yesterday's local news included a naturalization ceremony for those who went through the required process for citizenship. They raised their right hand, took the oath, were presented with a small American flag and were congratulated by the judge. This was done in a drive up way where formerly it was done indoors. This has been done on a regular basis for years. They did it the correct way.
