    • Assuming a huge and ever-increasing extra tax burden
    • Rising prices on products needed to heat our homes, for transport, and for food
    • Giving up rights to what we can do with our own property
    • Giving power to people and organizations who have not been elected
    • Enriching those who are in on the scheme to the detriment of everyone else
    • Reducing opportunities for people in some countries, such as the United States, while improving opportunities for some of the countries, such as China, who are the biggest polluters
While I believe that we should be environmentally conscious, the global warming scam is all about a transfer of power, and has nothing to do with the environment or the earth.

So far as global warming is concerned, I don't know and if it is is it a man made situation or merely another cycle coming around. We still have more tornados in Texas, Kansas, and Oklahoma than the states east and north of us but those tornados to the north and east are more deadly. Why? Greater population, more mobile homes, less experience. I don't know but tornados do appear to be shifting east and north. Maybe a drifting jet stream. I don't think the weather people lie, I think its the way they read and intrepid their statistics.

I am amazed at the ribbon of atmosphere sustaining all living things. Earthquakes are inevitable with plate movement but I'm not so sure about Global Warming. We are shown evidence of the Polar regions melting at an unprecedented rate threatening all low lying areas of the world. It certainly seems credible that the pollution we create must have a huge effect.
Unfortunately we enjoy our lives of excess. None of us want to alter our way of life so our children will pay the price I fear.

I have become a follower of the Magma Theory. If you look at the same temperature maps I have, it appears that the Pacific Ocean is warming, and the North Pacific most of all. The Atlantic, not so much, but Siberia and Northern Canada seem to be as cold as ever. There was a volcano beneath the Arctic Ocean that was warming that body of water for a while, but it was not covered by the media since it was not man-made. CO2 should be good for the environment, not bad, as it will stabilize the temperature, albeit at a slightly higher level, and speed the growth of plants, especially forests in tropical regions.

I rarely watch the news. If Hal didn't post about the earthquake, I wouldn't have known about it. Sometimes watching too much news becomes distressing. I like to pretend the world is a happy place as much as I can.

    Earthquakes in California: not unusual.
    Floods: not unusual
    Tornados: not unusual
Gas explosions: not unheard of, and I am thinking we have fewer of them now than we did in the past.

Apparently there was a gas leak, perhaps connected with the Pizza Shop, and seriously blew up a whole piece of the mall. I didn't even think something of this magnitude could happen this day and age from gas lines. Aren't there any safety auto cut-off switches?

Watching too much news is bad for your health. It’s all bad news!

It's not that we're having more disastrous events these days...it's just that more of them are being REPORTED by the supercharged Media.

    "They're rioting in Africa, (whistling)
    They're starving in Spain. (whistling)
    There's hurricanes in Florida, (whistling)
    And Texas needs rain!" (whistling)

"The whole world is festering with unhappy Souls!
The French hate the Germans, the Germans hate the Poles,
Italians hate Yugoslavs, South Africans hate the Dutch,
And I don't like anybody very much!"

To hear the rest of "The Merry Little Minuet" by the Kingston Trio, go to YouTube!

Same here, but, I like to look at the First Coast News app to see if anyone was shot/killed the day/night before. Perhaps I like the fact that it just validates our moving that much more.
Then again, I like looking, each AM, at the news apps for both Loveland and Ft. Collins, CO to see the much lower crime. That validates us moving there.

It's not all bad news all of the time. "Good" news does happen, just not nearly as much as we'd like to see it happen. I think the best times to watch/listen to news is during Thanksgiving and Christmas when many people do nice things for others.

Well, there is a high potential that a named storm could happen in the northeastern part of the Gulf later this week. That would be in the Florida Panhandle.

But, I do agree with what Ken says. The Gulf Coast, Florida and up the Atlantic Coast is, and always will be, hurricane and tropical storm areas in the summer.

I don't think it would take valid bad news to leave Jacksonville. It's a pit of a city with no cohesion. Even the skyline sucks. My husband was in the coast guard and I worked for Mayport Naval station. Eventually, we moved to Green Cove and did the commute. I only moved back after he died to be closer to my daughter instead of out in the woods alone. She lives on the west side. I don't need to say more. LOL.
