California city votes to ban gendered words as 'manhole' becomes 'maintenance hole' A California city voted to ban some gender-specific words in its city code and replace them with gender-neutral options. Berkeley's municipal code will no longer feature words like "manhole" and "manpower," and instead say, "maintenance hole" and "human effort" or "workforce." The measure passed unanimously Tuesday and replaces more than two dozen terms. Gender-specific references to job titles, like "policeman" and "craftsmen," will also be changed in the code, to "police officer" and "craftspeople" or "artisans." "Sorority" and "fraternity" would change to "collegiate Greek system residence." And the use of gendered pronouns, like "he" and "she," would be replaced with specific titles, like "the attorney" or "the candidate." https://www.yahoo.com/news/california-city-votes-ban-gendered-134954937.html _________________________________________________________ So yeah. This is what they are "legislating" these days. All the important issues of our time.
This is tied for the important news of the day, along with Amazon WAREHOUSE workers striking because they took a job in a WAREHOUSE. I guess they missed the part about working "fulfillment."
Just a thought... but in a couple of years when Bezos has automated every-frackin-thing, those striking goobs will be in the bread line.
Leave it to Californians to come up with some dumb ass ideas ? The years of earthquakes have left them brainless. Regardless for me it is still a dang manhole. Speaking of this gender stuff...the newest sexual preferance is now Binary. SMH.. anyway that is a person who like wants to be a male but does not want the whiskers to deal with. According to the article I read, they don't to be identified as either sex, therefore they can carry them look of either. Geez H Hulu- wake up America !
Oh my... What happens to Father Time and Mother Nature? Will we stop giving hurricanes female or male names?
In Germany, quite naturally, low pressure areas used to be given a girl's name by meteorologists whereas high pressure areas got male first names. It was only after there were complaints (by women? ) that this practice was changed.
I must be dense, but why on earth would high or low pressure areas need names? (I don't even know why hurricanes are named; they could just refer to 'em as 2019-1 or something.)
