I have a special place in my heart for Naval ships, but Coastguard ships are absolutely beautiful.

 

I, too, love ships @Bess Barber. I hate those giant cruise ships, though. What monstrosities!

They get paid according to rank the same amount the military does. After 9/11, they went from under the heading of Dept of Defense to Dept of Homeland Security. This allowed them to arrest criminals in open waters without it being considered an Act of War.

 

Agreed! I worked for the Navy in charge of the USS Kennedy Pier at Mayport Naval Station. My husband was the supervisor for the Electronic Support Unit of the Coast Guard. This is how we met. We were both civilian contractors. I originally flirted with him because he was in charge of my inspections.
