Lisinopril (blood pressure Rx) causes coughing in some people. Ken, have you tried the honey in your coffee? I have a friend who does that. I don't like sweet coffee, so that wouldn't do for me. Or, just take a spoon of honey like cough syrup. I have allergies that cause a mucous-y cough, mainly in the spring and fall months. Also, putting cream in my coffee seems to get mucous started but so far that hasn't deterred me. I manage with OTC allergy meds occasionally.
I don't think it causes more mucus, but it does thicken the mucus you already have. Doesn't deter me either. I don't even like coffee without the cream.
This has nothing to do with anything, but I always thought "mucus" was spelled "mucous." So here's the deal... Is it mucus or mucous? Mucus and mucous are so similar in spelling, and pronunciation that people sometimes mix them up. Mucous is an adjective . It describes certain membranes in the body. For example, a mucous membrane. Mucus is a noun . It refers to the fluid secreted by these membranes. So the day wasn't a total waste; I learned something.
