The seat on the driver's side of my 23 year old truck is falling apart. Would like to try and repair if possible. Has anyone tried, when it's this bad? . How did you do it? Youtube videos don't deal with this kind of damage over such a large area. ps: Don't care much how it looks, just want to stop further damage.
The damage looks pretty harsh to repair. We had a leather settee which I didn't like sitting on in hot weather, so we made a cover for the seat and used a duvet cut to size as the inside filling. Worked really well. Stays in place too.
Yep.. What worries me is you repair it one place and it cracks in another place. Even if I got a cover for it, I'd like to try to hold the leather together. Otherwise that foam stuff underneath will just come out. Doesn't look promising.
I'd probably try something like this, Nancy... CLICK!! I have no idea how it works but at least it would keep the foam from leaking out. I wonder how well the adhesive would hold up in the heat inside a vehicle, though.
No, doesn't look too good - they have tape on Amazon such as Gorilla tape which we have used on carpet, holds very well That would stop the foam escaping for the use of a cover idea
I've been reading about this product. It's been around for 70 years. Supposed to glue leather to anything. Originally used to glue soles on shoes. Maybe spread it over the entire seat and attach some kind of fabric on top? . Just thinking out loud.
Wo - you'd have to be good at spreading that fabric in an awkward confined space I wish you good luck and hope it works !
Patsy, I meant just the part of the seat that you actually sit on. I think the rest of the seat can be repaired more easily, because there are no splits elsewhere....so far. AND, they don't receive as much pressure.
I wouldn't use This Nancy..because it's not suitable for use indoors.. the smell is appalling and really overpowering. I come from a family of cobblers, and I remember the smell of this from my childhood... I would also check out the link @Beth Gallagher posted. By looking around all the other related products, if you are using a computer & have full screen, there are all sorts of leather specific solutions that don't look too expensive. Once you secure the bad spots, then you can cover it with a nice seat cushion and not worry about it getting bigger.
That's a good idea!. For the split parts. . It would reinforce them. A combination of all these things should work. Now, if I just had time to do this.
