That's a good option @Patsy Faye. By putting a few velcro pieces in place to keep it from moving around and easy removal for cleaning - no chance of getting pricked either.

I finally got around to thinking about this seat again. Once a tear starts it gets bigger fast. Climbing in and out of the seat doesn't help. Temporary fix. Fishing line, crochet hook, hole punch. Just added a few single stitches here and there to slow down the damage. Left long tails on the knots so they wouldn't stick up and poke you. I guess I'll just keep adding stitches where necessary until I decide what to do. Maybe by then it will be time for a trade in.
The thing is when leather gets this old, it will just keep cracking. If the pickup is of much value, it might be worth having it recovered. Maybe use a faux leather and cut the cost.
Yeah, I can see that is what's happening. I suspect I'll try to glue a vinyl covering on top of the leather. I wanted to try to hold the leather together until I get around to doing something, because it would give a better base for the glue. Underneath is just some foam stuff. I keep listening for things to start going wrong with the truck. I'm expecting the AC to go out any day now.
