Simone Biles. 22 years old, 4-feet, 8-inches tall. Tried before, video wouldn't embed. Trying again. Never saw anything like this before. She can spring up into the air at least 10+ feet! "One night after becoming the first person ever to land a double-double dismount at the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, Simone Biles continued to make jaws drop on Sunday with more history. Biles became the first woman to land a triple double (two flips and three twists) in competition on the floor during her routine" For the better view, see: https://www.aol.com/article/news/20...tory-at-us-gymnastics-championships/23791550/
A couple of weeks ago I watched an interview with her as the focal point. She said something to the effect that she wasn’t really worried about besting the field but rather meeting her own potential. I think she has already raised the bar so high that no one any time soon will be able to meet or beat her but that apparently isn’t what she’s trying to do. In essence, she’s trying to find out how high she can raise the bar for herself which to me, is highly commendable. I liken her to the earlier pilots who attempted to break the sound barrier and beyond. Once they broke the barrier, they still wanted to see how fast they could fly beyond that.
@Bess Barber What exactly is this business about Kardashians? I remember a blurb quite sometime ago about a porn video one of them made, and it went "viral", and now we have a whole family of "famous" people? Maybe I've got it wrong.....I need to be more tolerant. Off-topic, too. Frank
Upon some research, the Kardashians may have dated at least 15 athletes and some 9 different pro basketball players but contrary to what one might suppose, it does not warrant an award for any great athletic medal. The Kardashians, however many athletes they rub elbows with, cannot compare in any way shape or form with Biles. Frank is right though, it’s his thread but even mentioning the Kardashians in the same breath as Biles is off topic. Or at the very least, that is my opinion.......
Not quite though. For whatever reason, my brain does not like names so I referred to Miss Biles as Giles. My humble apology to her.
@Bobby Cole In my post #5 the word "Biles", or any reference to the athlete, is totally absent. Frank
I can't speak for Bobby, but I believe it was his implication that there is simply no comparison between the accomplishments of Simone Biles and the disgusting Kardashians. I wasn't reading anything into it beyond that and there was no slight to you, Frank.
What Beth wrote.......... But, although it is as Beth quite eloquently wrote, were you perhaps attempting to pick another sport that you personally enjoy in which you believe medals should be given? It is, after all, your thread Frank........
Hah. Of all the names I've been called (and it's quite the list), "eloquent" has not been included. (Maybe "mouthy".)
