@Thomas Stearn - In later years I got 'very' nervous when singing in public, it was a natural thing for me to do but that was taken away from me. Now I don't sing at all. I learnt at an early age to have confidence in all life throws at you, but I have little left. I detest over-confidence but you have to show you are worthwhile too. So, maybe that 'was' your downfall which is more than a shame, any guy that takes dancing lessons is worth knowing
That's a real shame, are you naturally shy?.. Most guys , and girls for that matter get spurned at some time in their lives as youngsters, it's all character building..
Let's have more photos of you all! From current to earlier times. Don't be ashamed if you look like a gorilla...it's the camaraderie on the Forum that's important! Hal
I wish you "Junior Seniors" were old enough to remember the great Movies, Songs, Comedians, Radio Shows, Autos, etc. that I recall with deep nostalgia! We could have so many more warm discussions! Ahhh well...we can't choose when we wished to be born! Harold, age 83
You mean like Glenn Miller & the upbeat music . The Green Hornet, The Shadow Knows & The Adventures of Superman. Something about those back seats that were like an overstuffed sofa do bring back great memories.
Glenn Miller music is a favourite with me - also loved the Glenn Miller story (movie) Seen most of the old movies more than once and continue to watch them
I'm ''only'' 64 but I have a deep passion for music genres galore ...and growing up in the 60's I heard much music on the wireless from the 40's and 50's of which my mother loved , and I came to like much more than she... albeit just a kid!!...of course most American radio shows are completely unknown to me, they didn't get broadcast here to my knowledge... we had our own!! Please post your favourites anyway..you never know who will enjoy it , you may be surprised
Aaaah Yes! "Boy, the way Glenn Miller played, Songs that made the Hit Parade, Guys like us, we had it made, Those were the Days! And you knew who you were then, Girls were girls and men were men, Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover again! Didn't need no Welfare State, Everybody pulled his weight, Gee, our old LaSalle ran great, Those were the Days!" (Except Hoover was before my time...I came along with FDR!) Thanks for the responses, Seniors! I have the Glenn Miler Story too, along with the Benny Goodman Story and the Gene Krupa Story! As for Radio, we curled up around the big Philco Console in the living room and listened to: The Shadow Amos & Andy Burns & Allen Gang Busters Fibber McGee & Molly Inner Sanctum Henry Aldrich Captain Midnight The Bickersons Charlie Chan And others... Dad drove a Hupmobile, a Terraplane, a Hudson, a Nash, a Packard, a Studebaker, and a DeSoto. Hal
Arthur Godfrey, Amos n’ Andy and the Lone Ranger were my favorite radio shows. That is, until we got our first TV then it was The Lone Ranger, Amos and Andy and The Annette Funicello Show. Yeah, I know. It was the Mickey Mouse Club and Annette was just one of the actors but to me and although I was very young, there was a definite difference between her and the other girls on the show so it was the Annette Funicello show. (That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it). All the above is true but even with an age difference between myself and the OP, I still manage to enjoy Benny Goodman, Glen Miller and most of the old greats. Like Shakespeare, talent has no age limitations. It goes from one generation to another and is never truly forgotten. It’s all in what we like and what we dislike in how it is remembered. My goodness, just slap my face and call me spanky, I still turn on The Bowery Boys, Our Gang and yes, Amos and Andy on YouTube once in a while.
I appreciate those remembrances form a relative "Junior Senior" like yourself, Bobby! Yeah, I guess at 69 you COULD be old enough to remember a few of the Chestnuts of my era! Hal
