Bill... Is that really live to eat, or eat till I die.. If I don't die, I'll have all kinds of problems...
Too many distractions last week. Forgot to weigh in or write things down most days, and food had to be fast and easy (i.e. lots of carbs ) . One day came in at 2260 calories. I got ambushed by a bag of potato chips. You can't eat just one (or 10, or 50). They are gone now. Back on track Saturday (1360, and 1180 yesterday). Apparently no damage was done. Weigh in yesterday was 126.8 (checked 3 times), and today 126.0. Worked outside in the heat quite a bit Sunday so that last number is no doubt low.
@Steve North, I don't really know, Steve. I was mostly a slender sort of guy until I retired. One thing I could never understand growing up about my dad; he relished eating. I know few foods, he did not like. I've heard him say a thousand times, during a meal, speaking of a certain food, 'ain't that fine?' It was only after I quit smoking and gained a few pounds that I began to appreciate food. I started cooking and among my try-outs, baked bread. I feel in love with fresh-baked bread. I gained another thirty pounds, thinking, what a fine meal that was or what fine bread that was. So I don't really know what label would fit. Once upon a time in the not so distant past, I did lose fifty pounds. I've gained some of it back over many months. It seems harder to lose now than then. Guess I'm not trying hard enough, or don't want to give up certain foods.
My father would do something similar. He would often say, "That's the best (..fill in the blank..) I ever ate!" His mother was not a very good cook.
Bill.... I hate repeating myself... But I guess I will.... LOW CARB !!!!! ......... The system works if you work it.. So work it your worth it... The only other choice is becoming extremely ill due to obesity.. Now that isn't what you want.. That means eating not more than 20 carbs in a day.. The 5 main things you MUST give-up are the main carb problems.. 1) Flour.. anything made with flour of any kind or that contains flour.. Pasta, bread, cakes, etc. 2) Sugar.. Anything that contains sugar.... Sweetener is the replacement.. any brand you like.. Personally, I like Splenda.. 3) Rice.. Anything that contains rice of any form.. 4) Potatoes.. Any kind of potato and anything that contains potato.. 5) Corn.. Any kind of corn or anything that has corn in it.. Eat lots of vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, and whatever you want, just stay away from the bad 5 items and you will lose weight.. I did it, and today I won't go back and I never gained back any weight.. DRINK LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER EVERY DAY Its your choice... either do it or not but if you still don't want to do something...... STOP COMPLAINING
It doesn't sound like much, but I am down another pound.. down to 206.0........ I HAVE REACHED MY GOAL WHICH WAS TO BE A FEW POUNDS BELOW 209...... I can now go on maintenance which means I won't lose but I won't gain either...
Okay. How about this: Had a breakfast of oatmeal, slice of toast, thin slice of ham, and coffee The oatmeal was one serving and seemed rather small. I have hit my weight limit. My plan has not been working. I've been having three meals and a snack daily, thinking of my diabetes but my weight has gotten away from me. Think I'll have Oatmeal three times a day, plus a snack with either ham or bacon, and toast. See how that works. May also have oatmeal for the snack, or fruit. Ugh! Is oatmeal a carb?
"If you're going to have a big bowl of carbs—even on a low-carb diet—make it oatmeal. Oats contain beta-glucan, which helps slow digestion. In a study in Nutrition Journal, eating oatmeal helped reduce appetite over four hours better than cold cereal containing the same amount of calories. " Old fashioned oats are also a good source of fiber. Benefits of eating oatmeal
Oatmeal is extremely HIGH in carbs... Also what you put on the oatmeal is something else.. sugar ??? Bread (toast) is extremely high in carbs.. Looks like you are out to have an extra high carb day... Keep it up and you will only gain more weight.... I told you how to do it... you have heard of the expression...... YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER, BUT YOU CAN'T MAKE IT DRINK ..... The same thing applies to you.... I CAN SUGGEST YOU GO ON LOW CARB, BUT I CAN'T DO IT FOR YOU........ ITS UP TO YOU...
Due to my two Auto Immune Diseases that were diagnosed in the past ten years I had lost almost 45 lbs and was pretty skinny with a loss of muscle mass as well.I am 6 feet four inches. My appetite since moving into Assisted Living two years ago has been voracious and because of the outstanding meals I have gained weight. I am now 175 lbs and got some muscle back due to exercise. When I retired in 1991 I was 6 feet four & 205 lbs.
@Patsy Faye My daughter has had weight issues ever since she was a teen. Now, close to her 30's, she realizes it is also a health issue. She struggles with it all the time. She prefers to walk over a mile a day to eating like a bird. It's REALLY hard though. People who love other people seem to also love food. I think it's part of being a nurturing giving person.
@Steve North Many studies aimed at determining just what basic differences in the American diet has over several centuries now greatly altered the general health direction, have been presented. Most basically, in early America the Settlers ate MEAT. Very little was available in comparison regarding grain-based products. IOW, plenty of "staple" was naturally available as most folks were hunters, and game was plentiful. Early on, very little was grown, as emphasis naturally hinged on securing a safe place to live, a "roof" so to speak, whereas growing produce was not yet a large presence. As we went from "hunters" to "farmers", the average diet changed from high-protein, high-fat to carbohydrate based. These studies suggest several significant changes came about: human teeth suffer the effects of carbs, and it is strongly believed that many types of malignancies were all but absent before the great farming changes took place. I have no source(s) to quote, only my memory as I have heard these theories over the years. Form yer own conclusions. Frank
