In the news last Saturday was a tragic case of a 6 year old boy on a fishing trip with family members. At the finish, a boat pulled up alongside for the family to get into. The boy lost his footing and fell into the river. Family members immediately went into the water to retrieve him. No sign of the boy. Since then, volunteers and police have checked the verges. Divers, drones, helicopter all searching and yet, no sign of the boy. This is a mystery to me, I just cannot figure how this boy has not been found, its as though he was sucked into an abyss. Can only hope they 'do' find him.
Totally agree Don. Sadly, there are some folks who choose not to wear one because, uh, dunno why but it’s extremely foolish not to. Other people simply consider that the seat cushions in some boats are floatation devices and if a person is in fear of going overboard, they think they can grab the seat. Stinkin’ Thinkin’ verging on “stuck on stupid”.
I thought you were required by law to have a life jacket on a child. I wonder how in the world did someone not get into the water in time to rescue him? That makes absolutely no sense. No one drowns right away, and if they did, as long as any air was still in the lungs the body would float back up immediately.
Slightly off topic. 30 years ago. https://news.sky.com/story/thames-s...-anniversary-of-marchioness-disaster-11789523 Back on topic. https://news.sky.com/story/body-found-in-search-for-boy-who-fell-into-kent-river-11790408
@Tom Galty Thanks for posting the update. I hope there is an inquiry, because this story makes no sense. If my child would've fell into the water in front of me, I would've drowned myself diving and searching before I would've taken off in a boat and left them.
They did Bess - that's the mystery for me and why I said, its like he was sucked into an abyss Very strange and sad case @Bess Barber
The whole story sounds strange. It must be that the family are not telling the truth about what happened, perhaps to protect someone's neglect of the child. I once saw a baby fall off the back of a boat. The family didn't notice and carried on down the river. The little boys plastic pants helped to keep him afloat. I ran like mad and managed to get their attention, whereupon there was panic. Happily the baby was rescued and seemed to be alright.
Think its down to the amount of rain we have had in August and the river was in full flood. But a 6 year old going on the water should a least be wearing water wings.
