I have never posted any pictures of what we grow here, so I will post some links for those who may be interested My wife's flowers are beginning to hit their stride: https://i.postimg.cc/x189sPWJ/IMG-4823.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/MZ3P7bbr/IMG-4824.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/9FGL65Hs/IMG-4825.jpg This is how we grow zucchini--low tunnels that are removed around the time the plants bloom. My beans are up and climbing. Other than some radishes, between the beans, that's all that I've planted this year.
We are harvesting zucchini, and cucumbers, and our first ripe tomato will be in the next two days. We are harvesting peppers, too, but they are green, not ripe yet.
Nothing yet except Toms by end of month up till November unless the blight hits again. Elephant garlic all picked. Strawberries just started to pick. Onions and normal garlic still not big enough to pick. Sweet corn a bit slow. Potatoes can start digging by the end of the month as they are main crop But at last its warming up and have had a good lot of rain in the past month.
Started canning pickles, lots of cucumbers. Ate our first ears of corn Wednesday and a few pods of okra.
We have started canning pickles, but I don't know what she has totaled so far. I know our big cucumbers (Japanese type) are coming on strong. I'm glad you have done some canning, @Sheldon Scott. How is your lady doing?
We picked the corn, blanched and put it in the freezer. I plan to make dill pickles next. She is getting around but feels weak and tires easily. Thank you for asking @Don Alaska
Doing some harvesting for the fair today. We have had a hot summer, but it got down to 36 F. here last night, so the growing season may be nearing it's end. It has been a wonderful year, though, except for all the fires. We have fires to the north that are large (15-20 miles away) and we had one to the south (3-4 miles way) that was declared extinguished yesterday. The fires to the north have destroyed many buildings, but they don't yet know if anyone has died in it yet. The smoke was really bad here yesterday but has abated a good bit today. I reckon the wind shifted. If it were not for the smoke overhead, we likely would have had a light frost last night, so I guess there is a bright spot even in disasters. This is normally our rainy season, but all our moisture is going north of the Alaska Range, where they are having significant flooding.
I've harvested beans twice this year, and it looks like we are going to have at least one more meal out of what's still in the garden.
We are in our "period of abundance", although it only lasts a few weeks. We have fresh corn (a rarity here) and fresh tomatoes every day. Wife picked beans yesterday , and I froze peas and corn today. Our apples are just starting to be harvestable, and beets and carrots are almost ready. I dug a little garlic yesterday and pulled a couple onions. My wife doesn't eat any garlic and few onions, as she is on the FODMAP diet to correct her digestive issues, so I get those pretty much all to myself. Glad you cucs are doing well, too, @Tom Galty!
We just picked enough beans for a couple of more meals, and there are more out there, including some new blossoms. Since we have a small garden, it makes sense to grow beans. As long as they have things to climb on, they grow up, and we get good crops. Most everything else we've tried hasn't been as successful. Potatoes do well when I grow them in leaf bags, but I didn't plant any this year.
I don't know if you can see it well, but this is my wife's garden display at the fair: https://i.postimg.cc/fRC5FVvV/IMG-5128.jpg
