Toasting bread and crumpets on an open fire at home... the bread always tasted so much nicer than on the grill

Does anyone remember snowsuits for kids? I grew up in the snow belt, and remember our first grade teacher spending half the morning and half the afternoon helping kids get out of, and back into, their snowsuits. :D

We still wear "snowsuits, even as adults--usually referred to as "Snowmobile Suits" rather than snowsuits, or winter-weight Carhartts. The Carhartts, or similar is the only way to stay remotely warm in the weather near the western coast of Alaska, as the windchill can exceed -100 F. unless you are wealthy enough to afford the Native clothing in layers of fur.

.How did I miss this thread.

A typical weekday beach scene in 60s Sydney. Many Greek/ Italian migrants opened small produce businesses (centre). An iconic Sydney milk bar circa 1973.(r)

This was a typical home on the outskirts of Sydney in 60/70s.

Rekindling really fond memories. I had those as ice skates using the same system for adjusting and fixing. And the soles would often come off - to the dismay of my/our mother. :D
It often strikes me that there was a time when the differences in lifestyle and living standard were not that huge at least here and there. But then a wide gulf opened up...

Really? I'm not used to that. :D To which part?
If you agree to the second part as well, does that mean you notice(d) a difference, too?

I remember the skates, and how the sole would become loose and fold under my feet tripping me up sometimes !!

For sure I agree about the lack of change for a very long time, we could rely on things remaining the same , but then suddenly.. things moved very fast and change became huge over a very short time. Now we can't rely on anything staying the same for very long, so because of that we have to always prepare for the unexpected.

Street cars and crinolines and bobby socks weren't part of my growing up, but i remember many pictures of these in my mom and dad's time. This is a great thread topic, my mind went back to so many pictures and stories of what my parents and grandparents said were the " Good Old Days "
