I've had pet dogs all my life (age 82), and we have 2 now, but lately I've become enamored with the Great Horned Owl. I met one at a petting zoo last year and I'll never forget the way she stared straight into my eyes with her big eyes! It was like she knew what I was thinking! (Female owls are larger than the males.) Hal
@Hal Pollner ....I started an owl collection last year. Became very intrested in them last year and since then have started saving anything with owls on them.Love the eyes.
@Bess Barber...Yes, I really would like to have a Great Horned Owl, because they look like they're a Bird of Authority, even more than an Eagle or Hawk. Those ear-like features are not ears; they are tufts of short feathers. An Owl cannot shift its eyes to look in other directions...instead it rotates it's head...as much as 270 degrees! Thus, if it's perched to look straight ahead at 12 o'clock, it can rotate its head to the right to 9 o'clock! Hal
If that Owl is stuffed, then why is the handler wearing a protective glove? Also, why would anyone want an Owl stuffed while in that pose? Nope...that Owl is very much alive! Hal
How does one take care of an owl like that? Is it kept in a big cage or sting tied to a sitting post? What does it eat? I like animals that look cool.
