When it came to naming your children, did you pick a name you happened to really like or did you go with family names? You don't have to list the actual names. My daughter was named after the piano player at our church because we liked the name. It is Chloe. Both of my sons were named after family members and luckily, I really liked those particular names as well. Sometimes people are obligated to go with Jr and III's + and it may not at all be a name they like.
I didn't particularly like the name my daughter was baptised with.. but my then husband chose it, and it was his way or the highway. her name is pretty enough, it just wasn't the name I wanted to call her!! Fortunately she likes her name...
My daughter's name was the title of a book I was reading. It's actually an Italian name but was the name of an Irish character. Her father got to pick her middle name and he wanted a French name, so chose a French saint. She decided to go by her middle name in high school but returned to using her first name afterward.
The two I raised, or finished raising, rather, having gotten them through an unusual channel, were then Diane, 10, and Rick, 16. Diane is today in parts unknown, her sister, my ex- does not know her whereabouts, and Rick died November 28, 1975, on his 25th birthday. My oldest son's first name makes him the 'IV' (father's choice); my second son (my choice) after my father's middle name; and when our third and last son was born we couldn't agree on the name so (my choice) initials only. He did want to change the initials when he was 13 but then changed his mind. I didn't tell him that I didn't like the name he wanted because I liked the initials which stand for the name I would have given him if father had agreed.
My name is Christine and I do like it but didn’t want another Christine when my daughter was born but my husband did so my daughter is Christina...but everybody calls her Tina...a name I don’t like at all..she does though so that’s all that matters. I’m probably the one that started calling her Tina ..just because as a baby it was shorter. Nobody calls her Christina though...unless it’s on a legal form. My son is Michael...no Michaels in the family..I just liked that name. But I’ve always called him Mickey and so does everyone in the family. Outside of the family..he’s Mike. Think his wife sometimes calls him that too...usually in public.
My brother and I both named after actor and actress. My oldest in part named after a young girl I went to school with. Liked her name and admired her courage after walking thru a glass door and surviving the cuts. Youngest has three names. one was my grandmothers name- one was the name of a character on tv- the other just seemed to go with the other name. So she goes by her two part second name.
If I had boys - I'd call them - one Bob 2 Bob and 3 Bob Its our old coinage is a Bob, (knickname for a Shilling) and I'm so retro don't you know
Anything is better than “Moon Unit and Dweezle”. But there almost is one worse in a family whose last name is Daub. They called their first son after their favorite song. The name? Zippidy Do.....Daub. Yup....it’s true. Oh, and my kids......Gene and Robin. And no, not my wife’s Robin but the one I actually had something to do with being born.

I'm Jerry with a "J" from birth. Named after my maternal grandfather, Jeremiah, who said, "That's no name to hang on a little kid." Rodney after my deceased grandfather, Wilbert Rodney. Hence the nickname Rock, from the newspaper comic strip "Rodney the Rock".
Is that a male or female ''Robin'', Bobby... ? Here the name is still quite rare for a girl, but when it's feminine here it's spelled Robyn...
