Just type the @ sign in front of the user's name that you are "talking to" and they will get an alert to that post. It's just a way to direct them to what you posted.

I learned today I had far too much costume jewellery!!

I have 2 shallow drawers where I keep it... bangles & bracelets in one, and necklaces in the other. I went through the lot, putting aside the ones I want to keep and throwing the rest in a carrier bag. Couldn't believe it when I picked the bag up, it was so heavy. 4 1/2 pounds of costume jewellery going to the charity shop!!

@Holly Saunders , don't just give it away. Some old costume jewelry is quite valuable these days. I had a yard sale a few years ago and put some of my costume jewelry out, never thinking it would sell. A man came by and gave me an amazing amount of money for it and asked me if I had any more.

I learned today that not every thing I see on the internet is good advice. I've been cracking my eggs flat on the counter with mixed results. This morning, I very carefully tap tapped and a bunch of the egg white ran out onto the counter.... wasted. So, back to my old wrong way of doing it.

I am not sure that what I learned last night counts in this thread since it’s supposed to be “today” but I’m comforted that last night at the time I learned it was today somewhere on this planet.

It kinda goes in the section of extremely useless facts but:
The Prairie Dog has a mating window of only about one hour, once a year.

There now, ain’t that just about the most fascinating thing ya’ll ever heard or read?

Learned about contrasts of having a home and being homeless. A real life experience this morning. The story begins last night when we decided to walk our 5 miles in the park early today. Checked the temp to pick out what to wear, set the clock for 5:30 a/m to be up have breakfast and be ready for the park opening at 6 a/m. To make this easier I'll use us & them, with them being the homeless.

Us--Alarm goes off. We roll out of our bed that has a 14" memory foam mattress. M wife goes to fix my breakfast while I wash my face, brush my teeth get dressed. She makes a banana/blueberry smoothie for herself. Were ready, then off to the park

Them-- Still wrapped in their sleeping bags on the cement under picnic tables.

Us-- complete one lap see the homeless couple are getting up.

Us-- to vary views took shorter lap.

Them--Already rolled up their sleeping bags, saw the woman coming out of the park provided public bathroom. The man was using a fountain to brush his teeth.

Us-- last lap feeling pretty good.

Them-- sitting in the sunshine on the bench that goes with picnic tables they were sleeping under. They were eating something that looked like it comes out of one of those snack bar wrappers. They smiled & waved, we did the same.

Contrasts. Us with comfortable bed, them with sleeping bags on the ground. Us clean bathroom, them public facility & water fountain. Us good breakfast, them with what looked like a snack bar. Us choice of clothing to wear, them most likely the same dirty clothing worn for who knows how long.

Reading about homeless & seeing 1st. hand the contrasts makes me wonder how it's possible for them to be smiling & waving. I can't begin to imagine having anything to smile about living as they do.
