@Gloria Mitchell Get you a container of No-Salt, and use it as you would regular salt, on foods, in cooking. It's Potassium Chloride instead of Sodium Chloride, thus making it possible to get your daily potassium without taking meds. I use it all the time; my Potassium always falls in the middle of the acceptable range. The daily recommended adult minimum amount of Potassium is over 4000 mg, twice that of the max of plain salt recommended. That's 4 grams, quite a lot. As for bananas, yes, they contain relatively more Potassium than other foods. It takes only 40 bananas to get 4000 mg of Potassium, though. Potassium is extremely important. It regulates the heartbeat, among other things. Frank
@Gloria Mitchell , are your potassium tables big enough to choke a horse? DH had to take them and I don't see how he even swallowed them.
I don't know how long it will be this cool, but for Florida, it was heaven today! Going a day without the AC on is just lovely!
I don't hv the meds for it yet. Really do not want them , but feel I should for a bit since I finally found out my problem.
@Gloria Mitchell I agree with the no salt substitute. There are many foods and some natural products, hope you get results from your meds, maybe after you get it controlled with meds, try food and natural adds.
@Gloria Mitchell Of course! For two reasons: first, they want to sell the drugs. Second, they assume the public is stupid, and might go ahead and buy "Light Salt", which is half regular salt and half potassium salt. Frank
Please take them Gloria, at least until you start to feel better, then make your mind up then!! You've felt so poorly for so long, surely it's worth a try?...
Foods High in Potassium large banana 544 mg med sweet potato 542 med baked potato 941 1 cup tomato sauce 728 1 cup cooked sliced beets 518 1 cup white beans 1,189 5 oz can salmon 487 1 cup butternut squash 582 1 cup greek yogurt 573 1 avocado 507 6 dried apricots 430
@Gloria Mitchell Holly is so right, sounds like you've not being feeling good for a long time, you've probably got yourself worn down, do the med thing...please...once you feel better, search other ways of getting your potassium. Get better soon.
@Emma Smith You've being busy doing homework, great job, some items here i did not realize. This is a good example why i love this place so much, so many caring and helpful people like yourself. .
@Emma Smith Please tell us where you found the potassium figures for the foods listed. Reason I ask, is that I distinctly recall a much lower number for bananas. My source says 195mg, compared to yours at 544mg. 6 Apricots 244 vs 430 I admit, the size of the product affects the amount of potassium contained, but bananas are pretty much bananas, as are apricots. The other items you listed are mainly higher than my list, but their size can vary greatly. My source for info: https://www.calorieking.com/us/en/foods/ I used "- Average All Brands" for sourcing.
