The Conversation feature in this forum is not monitored by staff. Unless you include me in the Conversation, I will not be able to read your Private Conversations. In order for me to be able to monitor Private Conversations, I would have to install a modification to the forum software, and I have no interest in doing so. We're all adults here, and Private Conversations should remain private.

Please keep in mind that what you say in private will not necessarily remain private. That is a general rule that applies pretty much everywhere, and particularly online, just as secrets don't necessarily remain secret.

However, it is bad form to reveal a private conversation, and I am asking you not to reveal anything that is said to you using the Private Conversation features of this forum. That is not nice, and it is not in line with the concept of playing well with others. What you do outside of this forum is your business, not mine.

If you are receiving unwanted Conversations from a forum member who appears to be a spammer, let me know about it.

If you are receiving unwanted Conversations from another forum member, politely ask them to stop. If they do not stop, ask them again and include me in the Conversation -- include my Admin account rather than my Ken Anderson account because my regular forum account doesn't have any more privileges than anyone else's.

This allows me to determine whether there is a problem, and puts me in a position of being able to do something about it. This may include banning, removing Conversation privileges, or simply communicating with the person involved, depending on the situation.

If you are sending unwanted Conversations to other forum members, and they ask you to stop, please do. I would rather not be involved.

    Thank you.

By the way, please do not report unwanted Conversations in this thread. Read the above post.

Since it has been nearly two years since I posted this, I would like to emphasize that it still applies.

Also putting someone on 'ignore' would put an end to it :)

This morning, I received a short conversation from a new member, basically just saying that he was new here. For some reason, I am unable to reply to the conversation and ask what he might need help with.
Is there some reason that a new person can start a conversation and the recipient is not able to respond ?

One possibility (?) ... the new member may have accidentally, or on purpose, set privacy so that only "followers" can "engage in conversation."

I see he followed me but I didn’t follow him.

He wrote me at 3:01 am...I replied at 4:39 am....that’s Pacific time.

He Ives in Providence and that’s east coast unless there are others elsewhere.

At least that’s what his profile shows.

So @Holly Saunders probably received the same message that you and I did, Chrissy, since he is following her, too. Mine came through about 5ish this morning, but the time zone difference accounts for that.

I didn't know until yesterday about the 'following' thing. I wasn't sure what it was for since I check out all the threads anyway. I wanted to say that so no one thought I was being rude.

Stalking or unwanted Conversations AFTER someone has been asked to stop will be considered overly annoying.

Please keep in mind that this is not a dating site. Some of the members of this forum simply want to take part in the public discussions here. What you do on your own time is up to you, of course, and I have no interest in monitoring anyone's private conversations here. You would be wrong, however, if you assumed that everyone here wanted anything more than the obvious, which are the discussions that take place publicly here. So, if someone doesn't respond to your conversation request, please don't pursue it. At some point, it becomes annoying, and exactly where that point is might differ from one person to another. Whether in public or in private, pursuing someone who doesn't want to be pursued is annoying, so pay attention to the clues, please. Thanks.
