Somewhere in the deep recesses of my mind, I remember there being a character named Stepin Fetchit. I guess that's why @Stephen Phetchet 's name jumped out at me. I found some of his routines but I'm not sure they would be politically correct to post nowadays. Actually, I don't remember the routines but somehow I did remember the name.

I'm somewhat puzzled. Numbers state there are quite a number of members. Where is everyone..

That's the nature of forums, Micki. People come and go, lose interest, etc. Plus this is a senior forum, so some of us are aging out, sad to say.

Most new registrants never come back after creating their account. When I have time, I occasionally remove those whose accounts are old but who have not posted. If there was a way for me to automate that, I would do so. But I have to go through them one by one. I haven't done that lately because it's time-consuming. Unlike some forums, I don't remove the accounts from once-active members who have left. I have a couple of reasons for that. One, if they have posted, it looks ugly to have posts from members who no longer have a profile to go with the post. For another, people sometimes come back after extended absences. There are a couple of forums that I go back to every couple of years. People used to trim old accounts, as well as older posts because Internet real estate was once far more expensive than it is now.

@Ken Anderson Thanks for the answer. How many active members are there, do you think.

@Beth Gallagher Thanks Beth. Age does creep up, sad losing members that way. Wish newcomers would take the time to see how great this place is.

I agree that new members can add a lot. But I like the relative "size" of SoC; large forums tend to move fast and seem more impersonal... so a mixed bag.

I don't know. Your guess is as good as mine. I'd like it to be a little busier, but not too much busier.

I like to feel that I am at least somewhat acquainted with those who are active in the forum. It is important to get new active members to fill in for those who are no longer active, though.
