Oh, we have plenty of fliers and junk mail, Holly. It has some kind of "metered mail" designation that pays the postage, so it's legal. Still annoying, but legal. :D We can't post any "don't leave that mail" signs that I'm aware of... or everyone would be doing that.

I've often wondered about that. About how vulnerable your mailbox is to vandals and thieves in the USA...

Many of us can opt for the slot in the door mailbox, too. Where I live, if I put a mail slot in my door, they would deliver to that. In other areas, however, they only deliver to clusters of boxes, usually on a corner of the street and, in rural areas, they will only deliver to boxes that can be accessed without getting out of the car.

Nothing about mail is exciting here. All mail comes to the post office, to our boxes, they are now free, where as a few years ago, we had to pay a yearly fee, if you request not to receive junk mail, you don't get it. There are also Purrilater, Fedex, and some others for deliveries to your door, doesn't include standard mail.

As long as the business who is sending the junk mail pays proper postage, usually a bulk rate in that case, then the mailman is still obligated to put it in your mailbox. There is no way out. :D

Cool about the post office box being free. It's not a huge expense here, but still an expense for the people who are required (or choose to) get one.

I believe Ken is referring to rural boxes where mail is delivered by vehicle..Door slots are common for foot deliveries..

In our cities, mail does include, mail through your door, multiple boxes on streets, there are postal buildings as well, not sure if the carry personal mail boxes.

    U.S. Law:

Don't know about the mailbox law, but if the USPS has items that don't fit in our post amilbox, they walk the item up to our front door.
Interesting... per the "law", cited above, "mailbox" seems to be the operative word.

Gotcha Ken... I keep forgetting that in many places in the USA where are vast distances so a vehicle would be needed for deliveries..whereas here we mostly live cheek by jowl so the postman is almost always foot delivering. Here in the rural shires, he comes by van, then walks to a dozen houses or so with a delivery then drives on to the next hamlet or village.. but mostly in the suburbs , towns and cities they're foot soldiers..

The use of our mailbox is controlled by a guy named Eddie.

Pay a yearly fee for what?..the mail or the junk?.

We've never had to pay for mail to be delivered, it costs enough for the postage
