A few things entered my mind when I came across this video. The main thought though, is that after seeing so many musical instruments from around the world and how mankind has managed to make music with them is sometimes a mystery but still, there’s more to come. Then, just a few minutes ago after writing in the thread started by @Frank Sanoica called, “disgusted”, I thought, “now this machine might be just the thing for him to sink his teeth into.” (No pun intended) Setting aside the health limitations, I can really see Frank building one of these contraptions!
It is a wonder and I applaud the ingenuity of the people that created these instruments, they've given us so much enrichment to our lives
Incredible!!...I agree I could see @Frank Sanoica building one of these pre arthritic days ..and I could se you Hal, buying it... and setting it right down in your house.. I love the custom based Flamingo guitar too....
Do any of you remember those wonderful Orchestrions? They were a completely mechanically-operated Orchestra, complete with Wind Instruments, Organ Pipes, Keyboards, and Percussion Instruments, and played tunes that accompanied Carousels at the Fair or Amusement Park, with the sound of an actual Band or Orchestra. They were also called "Band Organs". They were invented by German craftsmen, and were produced by Wurlitzer, Hupfeld, Welte, and others in Germany. I used to go near the Carousels just to hear and see the Orchestrion go through its animated actions! You don't see them anymore because nobody today knows how to maintain or repair them. Hal
@Bobby Cole This sounded like an elaborate exquisite wind chime. It would be such a beautiful sound on a porch or around a pool. I'm going to look to see if I can find a video with it playing without any talking.
Bess, go to "Orchestrions" on YouTube and you'll be amazed at the Sounds and the Mechanisms that produce these sounds...a Mechanical Engineer's delight! Hal
Alas, here’s a few more fairly recently developed musical instruments that is, except one of them because well, they’ve been around since mankind began but not necessarily used for music. Then there’s the world’s largest underground instrument and even Tesla had something to do with one of them even though he didn’t know it. At any rate, take a look and see what ya think about some of these.....
This is called a “Smart Guitar”, and the things it can do are pretty incredible, in my opinion. It looks like you can play just about any style of music with it, so instead of having several kinds of guitars, you can have this one and set it up for whatever sound you like.
