We all know the Red Hat Society, ladies that go to the Kentucky Derby and some ladies that will wear a nice Easter hat to church. There are a number of so-called "fashionable" hats that young women of today will wear as well. But, what I'm talking about is a baseball cap or cowboy hat. Being that cowboy hat be straw or felt. We have been watching the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas and have notice very few of the ladies wearing a straw or felt cowboy hat. Of course the barrel racers have to, it's a requirement of their association. Anyway, back when I met my wife in 2000, women wearing cowboy hats, in country-western nightclubs and as rodeo fans at rodeos, was popular. My wife bought herself a nice straw and felt cowboy hats a couple of years before I met her. She wore the felt to a family wedding and sometimes to square dancing. In fact, both of us wore our hats when we met the first time, however she did know about my past in rodeo. She loves wearing a baseball cap as well, but stopped wearing one due to her "ex" not liking a woman wearing one. Since we've met, she wears one often and I love it. Guess it was a "trend" back in 2000, somewhat after and before. We were quite shocked to see only a few women wearing a cowboy hat during this Finals in Vegas. Anyway, no matter if it were a "trend" or what is going on now, for the change, she will continue to wear one at times. As for me, I absolutely love seeing her in a cowboy hat! When we flew out here, from Jacksonville, last August, we both had our straws on. Got a few "looks" on the airline and at JIA as well as DIA, but...…...
I've never been a hat wearer, but I do notice that people who do seem to have forgotten all the rules of etiquette where hats are concerned. Most wide-brimmed hats are utilized to keep the sun off of face/neck, so seeing them worn indoors is just silly. Same for baseball caps; why do you need a visor sitting in a dark room? My father was a farmer and he usually wore a "slouch hat" of some sort for sun protection, but when he stepped through the door to come inside that hat was OFF.
Wearing a cowboy hat is totally acceptable at breakfast or lunch out. However, depending on where "going out to dinner" is, wearing while eating is acceptable as well. I wore mine last Friday night while having Mexican food. Did, however take it off when we sat down at table for dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse. But, even at Longhorn, I did see a number of guys wearing a baseball cap. They were much younger than myself. If I were to eat dinner at Denny's, I'd leave my hat on. Now, if I were eating at Golden Corral Buffet, I'd leave it on. At Cowboy Church, a man's cowboy hat or baseball cap will come off during a prayer, but the ladies don't take theirs off. When a rodeo cowboy/cowgirl is being interviewed, the hat always stays on
Not if their sole purpose for wearing it is to cover up a bald spot. I have no idea why this seems to bother some men so much, I think a bald head is quite distinguished looking.
I wear hats winter and summer. Not cowboy hats , nor do I wear my hats indoors as some people do... I think most of you have seen many photos of me in various hats.. in all seasons..
Wrong. https://www.levinehat.com/pages/hat-etiquette Men's Hat Etiquette Guidelines A gentleman should remove his hat as he enters a building, including a restaurant, home, classroom, theater, church. This rule includes baseball caps and casual hats. Hats are to be removed when inside, except for places that are akin to public streets, e.g., lobbies, corridors, and elevators in public buildings. In public buildings, the elevator is considered a public area, and therefore an area where a gentleman may leave his hat on.
As I've already stated...…."old" thinking. This is one reason Cowboy Church was formed, so that men or women wearing a cowboy hat or baseball cap could keep it on. Men's hats always come off for prayer, but not women's. The Pastor of the Cowboy Church we attended didn't take off his hat unless a prayer was said. Here is what Cowboy Hat Etiquette states: While everyone agrees the hat comes off in church, it is okay to wear your hat in Cowboy Church, but then it comes off for the Lord’s Prayer.
Actually, I really didn't expect anyone here to know the cowboy hat etiquette, because there isn't much of any, except in a regular church, at home, eating dinner at a fine restaurant, or visiting someone in their home. Now, there are those in this forum that may totally disagree with this, but it's actually true. Like other old traditions, wearing a cowboy hat in some places, just doesn't have much for rules. We don't go to "white collar/tie" restaurants, but if we did and I'd have my black felt on, with a black sport coat, shirt/tie, I'd take my hat off inside and not put it back on until we left. A former pro-rodeo World Champion, that wife and I knew, always wore a White Silver Belly hat, sport coat, dress shirt and tie at autograph sessions and some other places. His name: Fred Whitfield.
Really? Someone went to the trouble of forming a new church so that hats can be worn? I'm amazed by your piousness.
Piousness?????? Yes, this church was formed for those that didn't want to attend a traditional church where suits, dresses or slacks would have to be worn. Actually, many Mega churches of today, allow jeans and even shorts, printed t-shirt, tennis shoes and even thongs. We attended such a church in Jacksonville, Florida. There is an organization called Cowboys For Christ that meets on Sunday mornings at different rodeos.
