I'm not sure that all the pressure, frustration and anxiety are worth it. This can cause health issues for both of you. Maybe just discuss finding a more affordable location to live and make it on the joint social security you have. I know that sounds cheesy, but it's sort of what I had to do when I realized I had to survive on one social security check. Sometimes, living a peaceful life is worth giving up other things for. Just enjoy the time you have with what you've got.
Well, my wife is currently fighting a sinus cold and I have some as well. She was fairly upset that she didn't get the one job that she had the interviews with. She really did want that one. The other job was somewhat harder, but was very close to where we live. This is the one that called her to see if she was still interested in the job. She had to have a password to get into the company application area, but the password she had wouldn't work. THEN, after she was called, she was able to get into the app area, filled everything out, including some very unusual questions about religion and other things. Then, she got an e-mail stating the company would not be pursuing her for an interview. So, she continues to look and apply online. A few jobs are just too far away and she won't apply for them. We will NOT be living in this apartment, or perhaps even in this city, for long. Perhaps one more lease signing, but that's it. Currently, don't know where we will go, but it will probably still be here in northern Colorado. Just don't know.
...so are you checking out all the towns in Northern Colorado which are more suitable for seniors?..I suspect that as you say that Loveland is young people orientated then the likelihood is the next nearest towns will be as well, so will you go a little further away? What's going to be your criteria for the new place? If I was you , I would go and spend a 3 or 4 day visit in whatever town you get interested in.. go on a Thursday so you can see what it's like on a busy working couple of days and nights, and then stay on until the w/e to see how it changes if at all.. , then at least you get a better idea of what to look for, now you know exactly what you don't want Sorry to hear Mrs C didn't get lucky with her job applications, hopefully the next one... and hope you both feel better soon...
I'm sorry your wife hasn't found anything yet, @Cody Fousnaugh. I don't know if that's the case but, although there are laws against age discrimination, there isn't as much interest in enforcing them than there would be for some other types of discrimination. A lot of it has to do with the powerful lobbies and groups that are pushing one issue over another, and I'm afraid the AARP doesn't seem all that interested in much other than pushing their insurance programs. I also hope you're able to find something more to your liking in Colorado.
This is the first time, since we've been married, that she has had this hard of a time finding a job. It's pretty obvious now that she is competing with much younger job seekers with a much new college degree. Her experience is excellent and she has worked in two industries, that before she was hired to either of them, she has zero experience working in either. Banking and insurance were the two. but, if a young person, with experience in the industry that my wife hasn't got, very good chance that person will be hired over my wife. Thing is, a company can base their hiring decision on age and nobody would question that decision. All a company has to do is put my wife's full name in the Search area of the internet and a website, or two, will come up automatically displaying her age. A person doesn't even have to open the website! She has also been asked some fairly weird questions, on an online application, to answer. If she doesn't answer certain ones, the application process will not allow her to go further on with the application. She showed me two questions a company application asked: one about religion and (believe it or not) another about tattoos. Anyway, she will keep applying and see what happens.
Well, my wife continues her search! Actually, an agency called her, a week or so ago, about a job she applied for and they told her that she has to much previous experience for what the company wants. Then, another agency called her about a job in Boulder, which is way to far for her to drive daily...….especially during winter/snow months. It has all got quite annoying for her, but she continues to look and apply. No applying at Walmart and any place like that. Just too much standing!
It seems if y'all will be moving to some place in Wyoming in about 5 months...it might not be such a smart idea to take a job she's only going to end up quitting anyway. Maybe y'all should just enjoy having these next few months to enjoy each other.
Doesn't appear that we will end up moving to Wyoming after all. The more a person goes into Wyoming, from Cheyenne, the more winter there is. Anyway, from visiting Cheyenne for a weekend, the big cities of Wyoming, as in Casper and Cheyenne, don't appeal to us, like we thought they might. Anyway, not totally sure where we will end up moving to, but most likely will be somewhere still in northern Colorado. She just would like to have a job, full or part time, and if she has to quit, to move, she will. She would just like to have a job.
I'm really still gonna suggest that she volunteers somewhere for now Cody. I know she want a paying job, but for now , working maybe just a few hours volunteering, will get her out of the house, get her meeting people, and maybe they will also have suggestions about your area and where you might move to, and you could make new friend, but mots importantly it keeps her brain occupied, while she applies for other jobs, and future employers can see she's not at all work shy even in her 70's
Holly, sorry, but she wants to do something that will pay her, not volunteer work. Even where she has worked before, she didn't have that much of an outgoing personality. She done volunteer work once, but that was because she was making a very nice salary where she worked. Because we do most everything together, she doesn't make friends that easy. The ladies she meets just aren't interested in what she is interested in. It might sound odd to you and some other wives and husbands, but that "clinginess" is what brought us together and keeps us together. We both simply love being with each other!
Finding a job is a career in itself and lot of job descriptions are changing as the nature of doing business evolves. Many people do not realize it yet but the age AI has arrived. Creative calculation is still something beyond the computer's capabilities so consider it your best defense against AI's impending takeover. Had dinner with a mathematician last night who is overlooking just such a transitional project... in short, he was aware that he is paving the road to end the careers of programers such as he. This project leader stated that he was stuck in the cycle and couldn't see a way out. We had only met but I know he wouldn't have any problems in the future. He is a good person and we've got a lot in common. Let's just say something he stated earned him a critical spot in my project (just one of many projects). He wasn't aware that he was in an interview (actually nor was I) but he did say he wanted to be a part of what was developing and that is all it took. So consider every encounter an opportunity. I've crossed paths with people who had no possessions when we met, sometime later were doing quite well. Some I've even had the opportunity to help get there (project Heart'sPath). The more jobs being assimilated the greater the competition for what little is left. Experience is going to weigh more than a formal education if it is plied in a strategic manner but you'll need to know how to make this work to your advantage. It is a lot of work... ...but somebody has to do it.
