When the Beatles first appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964, I was twelve. As I remember, they played a couple of songs, then there was a commercial break, and some boring magician guy came on, so I left the living room and went to read a book in my bedroom. My brother called to tell me that the Beatles were back on later in the show, but I was into the book and didn’t bother coming back out. I think they were on Ed Sullivan a couple of more times but I was doing something else. How about you? Was it a memorable experience for you or, like me, did you see them as just another act on The Ed Sullivan Show?
I don’t think that I even saw them on Ed Sullivan, but I do remember when Elvis Presley was on the show, and they only showed him from the waist up, because at that time, they thought he was too risqué to show him moving when he sang. When the Beatles movie, Hard Day’s Night was showing in Seattle, we did go to see that because we lived near Seattle at that time. I was never a Beatle’s fan, and was not impressed with the movie , either.
I was 16. There was a lot of hype about it, so we made sure to watch. I remember there was a big to-do about their "long" hair.
No - didn't go out of my way to see them, there were acts I would never miss on TV, but the boys didn't impress me much their music did, loved the songs - but not watching them
I saw them on the show as well as Elvis was not my thing as I always have liked Country music much more. Doubt if I watched very long .
I was glued to the TV. My father was sure the world was sliding off the deep end when he saw them and all the screaming girls in the audience. Later that summer, I saw them at the Indiana State Fair. Yep, the fair. Paid the munificent sum of $2 for the ticket in the nosebleed section of the grandstands. My friend passed out from screaming because she was convinced that Ringo had LOOKED.RIGHT.AT.HER.
Other than great acts, I always wondered how he got that job. He wasn't flashy, entertaining or handsome. He had nothing.
I wasn't one of those girls who collected pictures or got all excited about them either. I was from the south and thought them quite goofy looking.
I never liked the Beatles. I've listened to much of their music done by other artists and found that I did like that. Did not like their sound.
