Trump shouldn't have to handle this...why do we have embassies over there anyway?

Our people in Iraq were attacked, at least one of our contractors was killed and more of them were injured. These are American Citizens who were attacked !
My daughter was in the military, and now works for military contractors, and it comforts me to no end to know that if it were my Robin who was in Iraq and being attacked, that our president cares enough to send troops IMMEDIATELY to stop the attack and turn away the rioters and attackers.

If American citizens are in danger naturally her Commander in Chief is not going to stand idly by . Whether this is seen by some as a knee jerk reaction or not it has put the US on a collision course with not only Iran but Irag too and the powderkeg wick is now burning. Trump has been itching for a way to bring Iran to heel for at least a year. But does the Middle East need another war..and will this simply be a conflict between America and Iran. I think not. Trump will want a Western coalition and Iran will want Russia and Syria to aid it. If this happens god help the world. Restraint is needed here Mr Trump and Mr Putin.

Actually, Trump's attitude matches mine. They've been fighting each other for centuries, so let them slaughter one another. It is only our oil interests that keep us in that mess.

It's a tribal thing and reminds me of the Hatfields and McCoys.

I posted that same sentiment months back. Problem is America needs Middle Eastern oil and Trump.. like his predecessors.. is prepared to go to war and "sacrifice our great young people" to maintain its interests. My son says America also needs war to maintain a strong economy.

Since most people tend to blame US involvement in the Mid East as the greed for oil:

If Russia or China got control of the region, thus the oil, this would leave Europe quite vulnerable. Not only could it lead to a financial crisis of epic proportion, but it would leave them quite defenseless without enough fuel to go to war if they needed to. The USA & Canada could manage to some minimal degree for awhile, but wouldn't have enough to share or possibly even be able to ship if there was controversy.

So, the US, along with other great allies, work together in trying to keep it all in a manageable trapeze act before it all melts down.

( Side note: For those who believe the Bible, they know the whole saga was foretold in specific detail over 2000 years ago.)

It's a decision I wouldn't know how to make, because events are becoming more difficult to juggle!

For starters, Bush II should never have invaded Iraq and taken his eye off the ball in Afghanistan after 911. He only went into Iraq to avenge Sadam's desire to kill his father Bush I. Secondly, the U.S. is independent of foreign oil and has a surplus due to fracking. Thirdly, our involvement in the Middle East has more to do with having Israel's back than anything else.

Not so. Your leader is having a loan of you all. Why do you think Trump got his panties in a twist when the Saudi fields were bombed.

Reuters: "but imports of crude oil and petroleum products from the Gulf region last year (2019) still flowed into (US) abundantly. The United States, produces roughly 12 million barrels per day, but consumes 20 million bpd, meaning it must import the rest. A good percentage of the U.S. shortfall still comes from Saudi Arabia, Iraq and other Gulf nations because several U.S. refineries prefer their oil."
Monthly U.S. Imports from Persian Gulf Countries of Crude Oil and Petroleum Products (Thousand Barrels)

There was a clear deceleration in 2019. But look how many American taxpayer dollars were spent in the previous four years.

See where our reliance on oil has gotten us. It created the Pacific war against Japan and is danger of creating something just as bad. We have to bite the bullet and abandon fossil fuels for renewable energy. Cut the fossil fuel apron strings. Naturally this has to be done gradually. But it must be started now. not by some nations but all. There are plenty of renewable energy raw materials in the ground.. my country Australia has huge deposits just waiting to be extracted when the demand warrants. Unfortunately that demand has been slow due to our obsessive reliance on oil, coal and gas. Using this new energy will also mean the West will no longer be beholden to the oil rich Arab nations.

You are correct. I should have written energy surplus. I was thinking of liquefied natural gas.
