Bitter Mellon it’s ghastly https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/bitter-melons/growing-bitter-melons.htm
All my favorites! Lutefisk, pigs feet, brains, bitter mellon, escargot, squid, oysters, chocolate covered ants-grasshoppers and any other insects... add to that foie gras and balut.
My dad always had a jar of pickled pig's feet in the refrigerator. Although it grossed me out, it didn't taste all that bad. Of course, I'd have to try not to look at it or think about it, so I can't say that it was worth the bother. Chocolate-covered insects taste like the chocolate they're covered with, so all the insects add is the gross-out factor. I'll add blood sausage and head cheese.
Most anything that "tastes like chicken" but isn't. For God's sake, if rattlesnake tastes just like chicken, why aren't we eating chicken instead?
I am an avid reader of all sorts of genres. For something fast and readable, there are a couple of authors I've been following for several years. One recently passed away, alas. She always wrote with her heroine living in California. Now, said heroine is so busy solving crimes, she barely has time to eat and when she does, it is usually peanut butter and pickle sandwiches. The other author is a Texan who often lives in the U.K. and writes her crime novels about the U.K. One of the heroes in her novels eats cheese and pickle sandwiches. Both these gustatory delights absolutely gross me out. Another U.K. offering is bacon sandwiches which I find just awful.
The tomato adds a lot. I can do without the lettuce or, better yet, substitute sprouts. I mentioned lutefisk in my first post. I had elaborated on that in another thread so, rather than repeat it here, I'll quote it.
I like a sweet pickle with a slice of sharp cheddar together, just as a snack. Never thought of putting them on bread though. BLT's are too much trouble. I don't like fighting with the tomatoes and lettuce to make them stay put. Just plain bacon, or maybe a little Miracle Whip.
