@Lois Winters It has become so only because the "People" elected officials who support Politically Correct Agenda.
My x-father in law was living in Orlando when he stopped a robbery / break-in at his vacationing neighbors house one night. He had the 2 at gun point when the police showed up and he was informed that it was a VERY good thing he didn’t actually use the gun to it’s full potential. According to the cops, the way the law reads (or maybe read) in Florida is that since the almost thieves didn’t have a weapon as great or greater than my x-FIL had, he would have been arrested and prosecuted had he used the gun. In other words, if a thief or whatever has a baseball bat then you are not allowed to defend yourself or property with anything greater than a bat or large stick. The whole thing kind of stuck in my craw, so to speak. What if the thief was a 5th degree black belt in some form of martial arts? Dunno, but if someone is wielding a bat or a knife or breaks my baseball bat with a sword hand maneuver, I do believe he’d have a large hole in his head in deference to whatever the law says. Florida does indeed have some weird laws.
Sadly, the influx of California liberals and illegals from south of the border make it less so each passing day.
I think the difference there might be that it was the neighbor's house. There are greater allowances for a citizen defending his own family in his own home than for a citizen who takes a gun out to defend the neighbors.
