It was only slow for me once so far but that was because the pic was too big and was finally refused. Otherwise, it's been instant….but I'll wait and see.

Twice now, this has happened: By hitting the Upload button, the pic was refused due to large size. Then, using the same pic, I drag and drop it….it worked

I just posted a totem pole pic into the American Indian Heritage Month thread by dragging it….but was first refused for size by the Upload-Image button

You can also copy and paste by the way I use that a lot and it's fast as well.

Oh, no one's going to believe that I've been on the 'Net for nearly two decades after I ask this... but anyhow.... I'm trying to put a snow pic in the "winter pictures" thread. Last time I did that, I copy/pasted just fine and my pic was there. This time I downloaded it from the camera and copied it, but it just pastes a small white box with a "broken" image in in... no picture.

I tried (first, of course) the "insert image" but it asks for a url and I don't have one... or do I? It's just in my "download" file. I was expecting a "browse" option where I just choose what I want to download like I would an avatar.

When ya'll stop laughing, I'd love to hear what I'm doing wrong. :)

are you sure it;s a Jpeg image Mari...sometimes they're not, and they won't post.

You could always upload it to somewhere like Tinypic (it's free)...and just post the url image from there..

Thanks, Holly... yes, it's a jpg. I'm wondering about the size. Is there a size limit for posting here?

I"m not sure I think there might be...I did ask Ken a while back if as long as I posted my pictures from a hosting site ( ie photobucket) so it wasn't using up his bandwidth..could I post them full size and he said that it would be fine to do it that way!!

I think there is Mari but I don't know what it is, so far my pics haven't exceeded it.

Mari, when you save the jpeg image to your PC, do you then use The Upload a File button on the site where you want to post it? Some "copied" images work and some don't. I have to download all of mine and then upload to the site.

There is a size limit. I don't remember just what the limit is but beyond a certain amount of space, I have to pay extra for the space that images take up. Overly large images are automatically displayed in a smaller size that fits the forum thread box, but they still take up the full amount of server space. I reduce image sizes to a pixel width of 700 or 800 pixels, or smaller, before posting them here. Actually, most of the photos that I post here I hosted on another domain that I have, and simply post the URL to them here. Feel free to upload images here because that is easier for most people to do, but if the forum won't accept them, they're probably too large. The limits is on the number of megabytes they take up, but a pixel width of 700-800 should be small enough.

Okay, @Ken Anderson , I know this has been discussed in various threads but I've heard conflicting answers, so asking here with both of my questions together.

    1. I understand what you told me about linking with a web site for graphics. Shouldn't be done. So I downloaded a few free cliparts to my machine like for welcomes, "I'm sorry" etc. Plus I have my own pics I'd like to share, including upcoming vacation. BUT I thought "upload a file" by choosing browse was the way to do that and I've seen many done like that. I don't have a photobucket or anything.... doesn't uploading pics directly to the forum eat up YOUR bandwidth? Or is the way I did things like my baby pics a proper way to do it?

    2. Does the same apply to youtube music links? (i.e. using up their bandwidth.) Or is that a different animal?

Thanks. I'm *so* extremely tech savvy. You believe that? :)

Uploaded photos or images do use bandwidth that I pay for, but I have a lot of bandwidth and, so far, it hasn't cost me anything extra, so go ahead and upload them. Youtube videos don't use my bandwidth, as they are stored on Youtube's site, similar to photos stored on Photobucket.

Thanks Ken, I didn't know that. I usually "upload" from my own files, but I have first gone out out a "search" and do a "save as". The only vids are always from Youtube. You are talking about videos say, I shot with my moviecam? I think I got that right. Denise

My pictures I take with my digital camera are too large for the forum, so I use a program to cut the size to about 25%, then am able to upload them. They're fairly small by then, but you can also upload to TinyPic and they have a section for IMG code that can be posted here. I didn't realize it could end up costing Ken, which is why I do it the way I do, especially since I don't post that many pictures, but if you'd prefer @Ken Anderson I can start using TinyPic here.
