I used to have trouble with glasses without nose pieces slipping down my nose, especially working outside, so I went with the nose pieces for years. But they were leaving dents in my nose. The trick with the molded plastic frames was to get the ear pieces to fit just right. It can be really painful if they don't. Why are ears are so sensitive anyway? Glad they have larger lenses available again. They work much better for me, especially with progressive lenses.
I'm the same way, Al. I can't stand for the side pieces to touch my head AT ALL; I just hate things pressing on my head/face anywhere. So I also try on 500,000 pairs trying to find something comfortable.
I hear ya, Faye. Keeping my lenses clean is the bane of my existence; I am totally anal about it and no matter how many times I clean them they always get smeary again...immediately!! I even take them off when I'm cooking and wear cheap readers so nothing will splatter on them, haha. OMG, I can't believe you didn't get the implant lenses when you had the chance!! I am waiting for the day that my cataracts get bad enough!! You are too kind; I think I am far beyond looking good in anything... glasses or no glasses that ship has sailed. I'm just wanting comfort these days.
I like the larger lenses too, Nancy. I had my progressive lenses made with a wider field of vision in the "middle" this time. There's not as much distortion in the peripheral vision that way. And those nose dents... ugh. I absolutely cannot stand anything pressing on my head, so I prefer the ear pieces to be a very loose fit. That does cause the glasses to slide down my nose a bit, but if they are tight to my head it gives me a headache and I'm miserable. I don't know why getting new glasses is such a chore.
I just returned from the optician. Tried on 4500 pairs of frames, and got a lot of sighing from the young woman trying to "assist." (Sorry you have to work at your job, dear.) They have the frames in locked displays so I wasn't able to just wander around by myself and try stuff on. I finally chose some replacements but I'm already wondering if I made a good choice. I think they only allow one "do-over" so I'll be stuck with them no matter what.
oh yeah.....those ear pieces digging in. ...I put a clear bandaid on that part...whacky ole people.... Ha!
I just this afternoon got my glasses back from the VA. I am wondering where they got this prescription because they don't fit me. Or maybe they do fix but I just can't see out of them. This is the second pair that's been messed up.
As my husband's diabetes got worse, he had so much trouble trying to get updated eye prescriptions as he needed them. There is so much money to be made in the eye glass business, you would think they would give better service. He was the most happiest dealing with the eye glass department in WalMart. They were actually helpful and kind.
@Beth Gallagher I feel your pain. I am fed up with the optometrist places with their high prices and impatient help that struggle to speak English. The bigger lens was suggested last time by the doc and the gals all agreed it was a great look. I was skeptical and I am still not satisfied with how they look on me. I started using a site called Glasses USA where you can virtually try on glasses on your photo. A friend has used it for her and her husband and get nice looking name brand glasses for less. I think they have a deal where you can get several frames to try on at home before the lenses are made.
Thanks @Faye Fox. I have tried the online optical sites; even bought a pair of glasses from one a couple of years ago. (Total duds.) My "problem" with them is that I really need to try the frames on because I am so finicky about how the nose piece, ear piece, etc. FEEL on my head. I'm not so concerned with how I look; I gave up on that a few years back.
I have worn glasses for nearly 30 years and have hated them from the get go. Everything already mentioned has been an irritant to me. With cataract surgery coming up, I opted for the high dollar newest lens and maybe, just maybe... no more glasses.
Thanks! That is good to know. I am super fussy about the nose piece and demand fixed and like a small width. I always get in arguments with the gals about my preferred width. I may try Costco as they have name brands.
Let us know how this works out for you, Harry. I'm waiting on my cataracts to get bad enough for the surgery.
Common sense would dictate that you get the lightest pair possible which you seem to have done. I have wire framed glasses which are lite and feel comfortable to me. The times glasses have been uncomfortable have been when the earpieces have not been pressing firmly against the side of my head and the glasses forever slip down and have to be pushed back up over and over. Are your earpieces pressing firmly to the side of your head?
