Has not happened today-but -another rant of mine is- automated friendly reminders from your doctor or dentist, um or whomever.
Do you know they have to pay for that service to auto call you ? so what that means is, in the long run,we are paying for that service also.
You can ask for them not to call you and sometimes that works well. I ask now-do you have automated reminders? Please take me off.
And no I do not need your little business card with appt date ... this is why we have the phones, you enter in that stuff on your phone calendar- boom done deal.
    :D

Glad you got it straight @Gloria Mitchell. I was just going to say, upright and with all that green you look to be Queen of the Irish. Cheers.

I think the English have made standing on an old wooden soap box in London's Hyde Park and spruiking whatever was on your mind to the assembled.. an institution. My friend @Patsy Faye may verify this. My compatriot @ Milla Jonas put me onto this idea as when she or I post passionately about something she says "we are on our soap boxes". So I decided to create a thread where all SoC members can lay their cards on the table if they have a grievance they want aired on any subject. This thread does have the say so by our generous owner @Ken Anderson .

Sydney remains a real chance of running dry of drinking water despite some much needed rain the past 10 days and yet I am hearing that this lunacy has still not been resolved.
A new recycled wastewater pipe built under the CBD and designed to drought-proof our state's capital city.. remains empty months after completion..thanks to bureaucratic red tape. The mayor's plan for the city's own grey water pipeline has been dashed by govt regulators placing a premium charge on business reusing recycled wastewater. Not certain how many other nations do this but Australia currently uses drinking grade water to flush our toilets and water our lawns and gardens. With our dams at their lowest levels ever and less rain to produce storm water runoff for harvesting.. this pipeline is the water lifeline Sydney so badly needs. This is madness. These bureaucrats need to have some sense shaken into them. I will be the first.

Hi Craig, yep we do have a 'soap box' over here :)
Speakers' Corner is a traditional site for public speeches and debates since the mid 1800's when protests and demonstrations took place in Hyde Park.

Speakers' Corner is located on the north-east edge of Hyde Park, nearest Marble Arch and Oxford Street.

Good to get things off yer chest so I may well us this thread :)

This is something I feel very strongly about. On Sunday Milla Jonas, Kate Ellery and I celebrated our National Day. This is inappropriate in a modern Australia as it is a colonial celebration..the 1788 anniversary of the settling of Australia by the British. In addition, our Indigenous people regard that date as "invasion day'' by a European power. I'd much prefer it was changed to the day Australia the colony became Australia the independent nation.. Federation Day.. Jan1,1901. Naturally this clashes with New years Day so is not popular. Then make the National day the day the first Government of the Commonwealth of Australia sat. That was Jan 9,1901. This is a sure way of recognizing this nation and the huge steps it has taken in just over a century plus it will appease our Indigenous races.

I think this thread idea is great @Craig Swanson !! I actually have several, but I have to be really annoyed to get the words out passionately. I'm sure one will come up in the very near future!! :D

As a tourist, I was at London's Hyde Park at Speakers Corner to hear someone actually standing on a box babbling on what seemed like some meaningless topic. It might have been meaningless but it sure was entertaining.

We are the "Silent Generation," Craig. Depression and World War 2 kids who saw much more than you ever will in a lifetime.

Part of my generation is also referred to as the "Lost Generation" as well, Craig. You'd have to research the years each entails as we all over lap one another.

I'd like to think of myself as a pre-boomer.
