I seldom watch the debates, but I wanted to see them all turn on Bloomberg. So far, it's better than I imagined.
Meanwhile, there are nearly 100k people watching Trump's rally live on Youtube. Looks like a big crowd, as usual.
I just watched part of it, too; just to see what was going to happen. Bernie is definitely attacking Bloomberg every chance he gets, and he is also getting really red in the face when he speaks/shouts; which does not seem like a very good thing for his health to me. They all have a “trillion dollar program” to do something or other, and it is almost completely focused on helping minorities, so you can see what votes they are looking for. I think that Bernie has a good following of younger people who will go out and vote if he is the candidate, and might not go if it turns out to be Bloomberg, simply because of Bernie vilifying him. This is what happened last time with Hillary. She attacked Bernie, and undermined his votes, so that hers counted for more, and it made a lot of the younger people who supported Bernie so upset that they didn’t want to vote for Hillary. Of course, they didn’t want to vote for Donald Trump, either; so many of them simply didn’t vote. I think that we could see the same thing happen again this time. I actually don’t see where ANY of the Democrat candidates has a really good following, except possibly Bernie.
I just don't believe the DNC will "allow" Bernie to win the nomination, no matter what. They'll swoop in with the super delegates and wrap it up for Bloomberg or even the hapless Biden.
I watched the last one and thought it was a train wreck, but I didn't watch this one. How did Bloomberg do? He has the personality of a fish, a history that makes Trump look like a choirboy, and he wants to ban everything that has ever been invented, so I wouldn't mind him being the candidate. Trump might win every state. On the other hand, if he cheated enough to actually win, he'd usher in the 4th Reich.
He didn't get a lot of airtime other than fending off attacks by the others, but he was remarkedly unapologetic.
Some Bloomberg response... https://www.yahoo.com/finance/video/bloomberg-pressed-stop-frisk-non-045319143.html
I watched the debates as I have most of them, I watched, I listened, and I read. Of course they attacked Bloomberfg. They attack any newcomer who steps on stage. If you watched the first debate all that followed were were merely copies. None of the candidates were inspiring. None looked as though he or she might go the second round with Trump. The only statement that got through to me tonight was made by Mike Bloomberg. He said and I paraphrase, he said if you want to know the thing that will get Donald Trump elected, just listen to the comments coming from this stage. It was the same arguments about health care, tthe same nonsense about sociaism, the same comments said last time and the time before. At present, the democratic party is handing Trump the election. I'd at least like to see a contest for the Office but democrats have a weak field.
I haven't watched any debates since Nixon/Kennedy but I decided I wanted to see this one. It was like watching a bunch of kids beating up on the newcomer. Glorious to say the least. Bloomie castigates socialist Bernie for owning 3 houses and Mike has 5 or 6 world wide.
I watch it sporadically as I had several chores to attend to. Same old story with Sanders shouting all over the place, Warren accusing Bloomberg of sexism and all after Mike for his money. Sanders also went after Mayor Pete about his billionaire donors. Mayor Pete stood out for his constant hectoring of Amy and she put him in his place everytime. That boy obviously dislikes women, folks. At any rate, Bloomberg looked awful as did Biden. Warren and Bernie were the winners last night. So it goes, as far as Trump, well he won hands down and his Arizona rally was a smash.
@Beth Gallagher Might it be generally true that the super-rich, accustomed to depending on their elevated position based on money, tend to rarely comprehend the value of humility and apology? Frank
@Lois Winters The very BEST thing is for Bloomberg to look awful. I reflect often on how his persona so well fits the prevailing attitudes of NYC, unique in the Country pretty much, even the worst Californicators are more subdued. He "fits in" there, but only in very few other places. Years back, a commercial played in Phoenix featuring a group of encamped cowboys preparing to eat and bed down after their day ended, one held up a jar of salsa......another looked at the label and declared, "This stuff's from New York City"! Another growled sternly, "GET A ROPE!" Told the story perfectly! Frank
I rarely watch any primary debates, because I don't like the rules. I don't like the constant interruptions, everyone trying to talk at the same time, and moderators calling time in the middle of sentences. Last night was no different. I watched about 30 minutes and fell asleep. Maybe they should just give each person so many minutes up front, like they do in Congress, and they can use their minutes however they wish. If someone wants to spend 30 minutes answering one question, fine. They will not be able to answer attacks later on. When their minutes are up, they go sit down in the corner and be quiet. I used to like Bernie Sanders, but I really don't like him now. He comes across as a grouchy stubborn old man with no sense of humor---my way, or the highway, type guy. But I will vote for him if he's the nominee.
Certainly seems so, Frank. But though I don't care for Bloomberg I admire anyone who is strong enough to shrug off insults to their integrity. He did not apologize for his wealth at all, and why should he? When all is said and done, I believe he is too much in the Trump mold to appeal to the Democratic base.
I thought it might be on at 8:00 PM EST but instead it was on at 9:00. I guess they didn't want to scare the children before bedtime.
