It isn't against the law here either, or in my lifetime. American Communist Party candidates even show up on the ballot from time to time. Recently, however, the Democrat Party candidates serve their purposes just fine so the communists throw their support behind the Democrat Party. All true, though.
They need to tell that to the Communist Party USA, then. As I said, they don't field their own candidates as often as they used to because the Democrat Party serves their interests quite well. In 2016, they preferred Bernie Sanders but would settle for Hillary Clinton, as long as they had a candidate who would continue the work of Barack Obama. I haven't heard, but I'm guessing they are rooting for Bernie again this time around.
At one time it was against the law. So what is your problem, Tom? You do not live here. Why should it even be any of your business what our laws were or are? If you dislike America, that's fine, but your snarky reference to us is totally offensive to me and I would hope to the other Americans here. It wouldn't occur to me to snidely comment on any other country. What they do is their affair.
The Communist Control Act (68 Stat. 775, 50 U.S.C. 841-844) is a piece of United States federal legislation, signed into law by President Dwight Eisenhower on 24 August 1954, which outlaws the Communist Party of the United States.
The Act has since been ruled unconstitutional in federal court but has not been ruled on in the Supreme Court and has never been enforced.
No I was admiring a Great American called J Baker for her work with the free French army in WW2 who got top honers from the French....but on going back to her own country she was abused because she was black and labled by some bit of filth as being a commie. PS I am a great admire of America and always have been.
Ken Thanks for that Explains it ....so hopefully nobody will be jailed for a political view in the land of the free
I am well aware of that, Ken. It was Tom's attitude toward America that was galling me. Forget the whole thing. Baker, Belafonte and bunch of others were spouting commie slogans long before you were even born.
And I thank you for that was shocked that another poster stated that it was illigal to be a commie in the USA
The Act creating the law may or may not have been repealed but the way the legal system works, if a federal court finds the law to be unconstitutional and neither an appeals court or the Supreme Court overturns that ruling, then the federal court decision stands, and the law is deemed unconstitutional and will not be enforced.
You are a presumptuous bloke, Tom. Because she was labled a Communist doesn't mean my government is a piece of filth for that is exactly who labled her in the first place based on her previous actions and behavior toward the U.S.A. One could hardly think we'd welcome her or her ilk with open arms.
