Love DST, especially when winter will be coming to an end here. Warmer days and more daylight equals getting things done on our boat to get it ready for the lake.
If I had an 8 - 5 job, I wouldn't like wasting a whole hour of daylight before work in the summer. In the dead of winter it would be pretty much dark here both before and after work, so it wouldn't matter. I'd go with DST year round if I had to choose.
Can someone please explain me something... Today we have an extra day in our lives... OK... We get one every 4 years I know.. However in a few days when we change the clocks, we lose an hour.. Now, first they give us a day and then they take away one hour from us.... What next ??? Is that what we call ............. "give and Take"????
No, the things you mentioned are different animals. a) time change (summer time vs standard time) is a give and take and happens within a year. What is taken in spring is given back in fall. b) The other thing is the leap year. A year is the time it takes earth to rotate around sun for which it exactly needs more than 365 days (more than 5 hours). A calender, however, shows full days only thus neglecting those roughly five hours. As a consequence, if not corrected, seasons would change with spring eventually starting as early as January. That's why the old Romans (Caesar) introduced this additional day to make up for the difference every fourth year.
I know it is from the old Roman calendar, this leap year.. That is a new method of having a calendar.. The Hebrew one is centuries older.. If you (like I) follow the Hebrew calendar, there are 13 months in the year because (very simple)..... New moon, New month.... No such thing as an extra day every 4 years..... On the other hand, the American elections for President happen on leap years, making it simple to remember... OK... I went off on a tangent here........ sorry ...!!!!... Again, not every province in Canada changes their clocks twice a year... I still am not sure why we do it... Just leave it alone.. The sun will rise when it does, and set when it does, without a time change...
I think that a lot of us would rather have them decide on a time standard, and then leave it there , instead of the change twice each year. I enjoy the daylight hours being longer in the evening during the summer, and would be happy to have DST all year around, because then it would not get dark so early in the winter, either. I have thought for a long time that I don’t like that we use a pagan (sun worship) method of our calendar , as well as the pagan names for the days of the week; but I know next to nothing about the old Hebrew calendar . My daughter-in-law belongs to one of the Messianic Jews, so I knew that she was always announcing when the new moon was supposed to be, and now, I think that I will learn more about how your Hebrew calendar works, @Steve North . Since you have 13 months, what are they called ? This would change the astrological signs, too, right ? Maybe you can start a thread in the religion section and tell us more about the Hebrew calendar ?
Yvonne..... Let me think about that one... I'm not sure I want to spend that amount of time on the computer.. I only come on the computer in the evening just before bedtime to get me sleepy.. Sometimes when I get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, I have trouble falling back asleep, so i come on here for a few minutes.. Almost never during the daytime am I on here..
There we go with another change.. If we have to change, why don't we all do it on the same day ??? Why the different days ?? another thing to try to confuse us..
Makes no sense does it?...we should all change at the same time... but then I don't understand why Canada has 6 time zones... can you explain that Steve ..are you all at different times in one country?
Daylight savings time is a state's issue here. Some states have it, others don't. Every few years, someone introduces a bill to change Maine to Atlantic time, which makes sense, but it's always defeated by Democrats, who are fundamentally opposed to anything that makes sense.
