Lois.. Absolutely to each their own.. We were city people for all of out life till we became country people and we just love it.. Like you said, its living in the country house all year long... Does that remind you of the old TV program...…….. Green Acres …… ??? She wants the city and he wants the country...
Yes, Steve, it does. My only foray into any type of country living is suburbia and having my own vegetable garden and eating out of it all during the season. What a terrific feeling that is. My town was a very small one as well, just about 1,000 when my family moved there from NYC. What a blow that was, but I adapted. I was young and really had no choice. I truly loved that little town. The fellow up the street had a cow, behind us, chickens and a few had sheep. But, right after WWII that changed very quickly. It is now a bustling municipality, with all the major stores close by and forget having any kind of farm animal. No more horses or the like. We are simply too close to N.Y. and most folks work there. But gardens still flourish. There are lake communities nearby which are great for fishing and swimming as well, but nothing to compare with the country life you now enjoy.
You city people. I grew up in a town of 200, although I now live in a big city with about 2,000 people.
After living in Montreal and then now living in Massey, I wouldn't go back to a big city again..... ever...
Doctors are not a problem at all.. Here in Massey we have a medical clinic with 2 fulltime doctors, a practical nurse and a registered nurse.. Everyone living in Massey and surrounding areas are entitled to have a permanent doctor which most do..... Now, that said, we don't go to our local clinic but instead in the town of Espanola (which is 35kms away) where there is a hospital with a very large medical clinic.. We have our general Practioner there and we see him whenever we want to.. The hospital is quite the place with several doctors on duty 24/7... it is a fully serviced hospital including a great physiotherapy clinic.. There is attached to the hospital a doctor's clinic where we have our doctor.. The only reason we go there instead of the clinic in Massey is personal.. Actually, the local doctors will send you for blood tests, X-Rays, or other tests and you end up going to the hospital anyway, so why not have a doctor there and avoid the running back and forth.. We like young doctors, not that the doctors in Massey are that old.. Should we need an appointment to see our doctor, if I call in the morning, I can often get to see him in the afternoon or for sure the next day.. Should it be something more urgent, we go to the emergency and get very good attention.. Today with computers, all they have to do is look up our name and see our file.. The hospital has a pharmacy but we fill our prescriptions at the local pharmacy in Massey.. They deliver if asked.. its all the same price anyway with our health care system... No charge for the doctors, hospital, procedures, operations, physio, or any test.. We are NEVER charged for anything medical... Prescriptions and renewals are $2.00 each, regardless of what it is.... I may of gone on a bit long, but I hope you get the medical picture up here..... I would say it is ……... excellent......

Were I 15 or 20 years young, I'd truly consider it, Steve. I will never go back to the NY style of living. like going to Broadway shows and Special Events, but don't even do that anymore. That thrill is gone. Peace and quiet is my thing and you have it, but remember, I am 87 now. My so would flip.
Lois, I am pushing 80...……….. So ???? Its only a number.. It all depends how you feel rather than the number.. Some are old at 60 while some (like us) are young at our age... Now, … Is that young at our age.... or … young for our age …???
Good for you... That's wonderful.. Keep it up and don't stop..... Just another thing about Massey... I don't know why, but it seems like more and more folks up here are living to be way over 100 years old... I know it is like that everywhere, but up here, 103 or 105 isn't uncommon... At 100, they are still out there working the fields... One chap is 101 and he still hunts...… Maybe it is the clean fresh air... No pollution up here...

These folks have lived here all their lives.. They are farmers, lumber people, or just outdoor workers.. Remember, we have NO pollution up here.. When I was fishing in the local lakes, I would drink the water direct from the lake.. Just bring a cup along and drink...
