If they were on til the 60's then I didn't watch the reruns but the live show. How did Ricky Nelson die? I forgot.
Yes, I remember them, but mostly in reruns. I was born in 1951, so I was only two when they started, and we didn't have a television until 1962 or 1963, I think; not that we couldn't afford a television, but that was about the time that there were television states powerful enough to reach us. Up until I left home for California in 1971, we had only three available stations, at most, only one of which had good reception.
I'm thinking plane crash, but let me go look... maybe car accident. Yep, private plane that had previous mechanical issues.. last day of the year, 1985. I thought it was longer ago!
We already had a color TV in the early 60's of course not many shows were in color. Thanks Mari, I remember now. Just was sure if I was mixing him up with Buddy Holly. I also loved watching "leave it to Beaver" and "The Patty Duke Show".
Never heard of the show, but remember Ricky Nelson the singer, I particularly liked his song "Poor Little Fool" I still have the 7" disc somewhere
I believe his sons have a band too? Gunther looks a lot like Ricky .. I do remember watching and looking forward to the show every week... Ricky was the cutest of the boys and of course the youngest too, was loved by everyone at that time..lol.. They were the perfect family and everyone envied that family , im sure.. and Yes was sad when I heard Ricky had died in a plane crash ..was big news.. I think his dad died first then his mom.. and the older brother , sorry his name I can't recall at this moment...isn't he still alive?
At one time Ricky Nelson (who I really liked) was married to Kristin Nelson, who I see died in 1982. I think she got into drugs or something and her brother, the actor, Mark Harmon went to court and got the kids away from her. I don't recall the details that was a long time ago. At the time I thought how horrible it was that he and his wife, the lady who played Mindy in Mork and Mindy, were trying to take the kids. Now I would tend to agree with it more as I have been around a few people who've let drugs run their life. I think he died in a small plane crash. Garden Party is my favorite song of his.
I think Rickey's wife, Kristin, is still alive Linda, according to wikipedia. She's age 70 now. You're right that Mark Harmon and Pam Dawber (Mindy), tried to get custody of her youngest son because Kristin was in rehab, and her young son said she was like a "dragon with mood swings". But they dropped the custody case when Pam Dawber was allegedly accused of cocaine use. That poor child. Hollywood is messed up. Sheesh, I need a Ricky fix, don't you?
Yes, Hollywood seems a very messed up place to try and live a normal life with a family. Maybe why some of them take their money and run far away .... a couple examples... like years ago, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward moved with their daughters, to New England. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell bought a ranch up in Idaho... somewhere up there. Well, bad example, I guess they are split up now. ...anyway ...
Yes, I also read Kris was very ill with substance abuse and her brother backed off taking the kids away due to his own wife's drug use. Kris threatened to expose it if he continued.
Now that you mention it Bonnie, I do recall reading that they weren't married at least at the time, but I liked them as a couple somehow. Goldie, think- is fabulous!
