They have been showing old 60s programmes over here and George was a guest, he was very
popular over here. He did a solo dance routine and he was superb !
I want to try and find a film 'Bolero' the only one that features him as a dancer ……

I just watched, Some Like It Hot again and George Raft was of course, the mobster in it. He played that role too often for he had many other talents.

Any film that is really good will survive the test of time. I will record and save what is running on TV from long ago. Right now they are showing a 1935 movie with John Wayne.

Banned from entering Britain in 1966 because of his alleged Mafia connections.

    Really
I'm so surprised at that - he was 'so' popular here, saw him recently on TV, recorded 1965 at the Palladium

@Patsy Faye, I just watched most of the movie Every Night at Eight (1935), with George Raft, Alice Faye, Frances Langford and Patsy Kelly, on YouTube. A musical comedy! . It was a feel good movie. George Raft didn't get killed in the end. :)

    A scene with Alice Faye

Thank you so much Nancy - I love Alice Faye ! A real early movie for her
I tried to get 'Bolero' but only saw one with subtitles - too distracting :)

This is if I remebered right he came to the UK and some papers exposed his Mafia connections while he was here. His childhood friend and in later life was Bugsy Segal

But he did stop the Mafia from killing James Cagney.

Factoid: .George Raft was known for his trademark white tie and black shirt in movies.

Huh ! This can't be true - why would they want to hurt Cagney o_O
Raft may have had a friend in Segal if he knew him from way back, but it depends if he was in any way 'involved'
with them - sometimes artists had 'no choice' but to be civil to them, so its a shame if Raft paid a price for that
