    Lois and Lon

There is a place here in Clarksville ( Providence assisted living) That charges $3,000 per month for one or $4,000 per month for 2.

That seems a lot cheaper than what I think you two are paying. I think $4,000 per month for my wife and I is very affordable.

I've been in the place and it seems nice.

So you would be staying in Arkansas and not moving to California after all ?

    It's an option to consider

Sheldon, I do believe the cost of living is much lower in Arkansas that in either California or New Jersey. Sounds like a good deal, but not many of us can pack up and change horses at this point in life. Appreciate the information though and others may wish to consider this for future use.

I think that Sheldon was just explaining what might be a possibility for him and his wife, @Lois Winters. He has shared with us that she has had ongoing health problems, and so has Sheldon; so living out on their beautiful farm is not going to continue to be possible for them, plus his wife is going to need a caretaker besides just Sheldon.
He has mentioned moving to California where their daughter is at, but that is a long move, and a lot to deal with. Finding a suitable place near where they live now seems like it might be an excellent choice for Sheldon.

Members that have followed my posts know that it's expensive for me to live where I live but it is more to my liking and best interests than staying in the large home that I sold or moving into the extra bedroom at my daughters home. I could very well exhaust all my resources living here before I die but that's OK. I am able to retain a degree of independence that I desire and not be a burden to any family member. I do miss not having a car and being able to drive.

As long as it's what you want, that's the main thing. Each of us has our own preferences and it's nice to have options.

Because I spent so many of my retirement years living in New Zealand I communicate with New Zealanders on a NZ Discussion Forum similar to this one. I find it interesting that the cost of living in a Assisted Living facility like mine is just about the same when you consider the money exchange rate. The services offered are virtually the same and all the Assisted Living places are owned and operated by a large corporation with many locations just like the U.S. We Seniors are nothing more than crops being harvested.

I went for a exercise walk on my second floor with my walker and discovered that there were many empty apartments that two months ago were occupied. I enquired and was told that three of the couples had lost a spouse and moved out to live with children rather than live here alone. The others moved out to live with family because they could no longer afford to live here. I feel very fortunate that I do not have to live with my daughter particularly during this COVID 19 period that has disrupted every ones life.

You're fortunate to be able to afford what you've got, and equally fortunate that they're providing the level of care that they are.

I think this is a subject that worries many of us. Kinda makes me wish we were still tribal in structure (assuming I wouldn't be the old guy they put on an ice floe and wish bon voyage.)
