So Hal, if the government comes along and says, for the good of the government, your house now belongs to the government. Bye, see ya later. Will you willingly obey? By your own words, you would gladly say, here it is, without question or any knowledge of why.
I have left a couple of jobs because I felt they weren't allowing me to do a good job. While we all need a paycheck, I also want to take pride in my work, since this is what makes it enjoyable. So, unless someone were to order me to do something that I believed to be morally wrong, I would do it as long as I was under their employ, but if I felt that they were asking me to do something stupid, I'd look for a job that didn't require stupidity. More often, this didn't require my leaving. Instead, it was more likely to result in a promotion to a job where I didn't have to listen to the person who was asking me to do something stupid. I am not an employee of either the federal government or the state government. We all know that's not the case, but the myth is that they are supposed to be working for me.
Just wondering, Yvonne, do you and Bobby agree on everything? Threads done by both of you indicate that, however, my wife seems to always agree with my feelings.
No, @Cody Fousnaugh , Bobby and I certainly do NOT agree on everything. We do agree on most things, but even then, we often times have a whole different outlook on the topic and reason why we think that it is something we both agree on. I am a A-1 certified Conspiracy person, going down rabbit holes is one of my favorite pastimes, and learning new things and then investigating to see if they are possible. Bobby totally hates any kind of conspiracy idea, never watches any of the documentaries , or even considers the possibility of most of the things that I am researching. We like different foods, and eat different diets. Bobby usually makes what he wants to eat, and I make what I want to eat; but sometimes we do have the same thing for our meals. We pretty much agree on the vital things, while enjoying each other’s differing opinions on many thoughts and ideas. This gives us lots of good topics for discussion, which people do not have if they are just mirror-images of each other. As the old saying goes, “variety is the spice of life”. We both like spice.......
If my wife doesn’t mind, the answer is NO. We’re both human beings with different life experiences but we’re both willing to talk about things. In this particular case though, we both agree that there’s a bunch of hooie going on that doesn’t have anything to do with a virus of any kind. Note: My wife got there first but my answer remains.
All the above said, back to the protest thing. We actually have nothing to protest.....yet. Just as a brief observation, my neighborhood is doing what it was doing before the virus was reported. I have not seen one person with a mask on as the people mill up and down the street. Everyone I am familiar and / or friendly with is healthy and for the most part, everyone including the drug dealers and hookers are working. The construction site across the street has been going full bore everyday including weekends and nope, no one has gotten sick. Our next door neighbors work and the kids play out in the yard every day except when it rains and by the way they act, no one is ill by any means. I do know one guy who is having a terrible time with spring related allergies but he has problems with that every year. With the exception of being able to go to the gym every day and go to a restaurant once a week or so to have lunch and a couple other things, we’ve been pretty much unencumbered by any restrictions real or imaginary. In the entire county, we have only had 4 deaths and we’re not really sure if they even died of the virus. No one in our hood seems to be panic stricken and I do not see anyone unloading unreasonable amounts of toilet paper or water although I did see a couple of empty flat screen TV boxes next to garbage cans directly after the checks started coming out. According to the owner of the convenience store I frequent, beer sales are way up this week too so folks are indeed enjoying the extra “stimulation” the checks have brought. Here in Alabama, I’m not too sure how folks would react to a guy like De Blasio or the lady governor of Michigan. Maybe it’s good that we’ll never find out.
Every year, I know people who get the flu, and every few years someone I know dies from it. I still don't know a single person who has even tested positive for COVID-19, let alone died from it. I know of someone who tested positive for it here in Millinocket, but I don't know him, and I think he recovered without hospitalization.
Of course not! Bobby, YOU KNOW that the citizens of our country would never agree to such a preposterous mandate, and the Government would never make such a demand! Hal l
Your answer is preposterous. Ever hear of Eminent Domain? Alas, you have indeed proved my point. It’s only when OTHER people are effected that you think we should all...obey. When it affects you,.;......you’d scream like a mashed cat!! Why, you might even form a protest and act like the brat you proclaim everyone is acting like.
Ok, now wife and I are "for" opening up America! Why? If folks catch the virus, and possibly die, we have to join in with a rather large majority of folks that say "so, if it happens (increase in people who get it and/or die from it), that's just the way it will be". IOW, wife and I can only do "our part" in keeping us safe. My own SIL (wife's sister) is very, very tired of this "Stay At Home" Order. At this time, she tell us " I don't care if I get it or not or even die from it". She also told us "I simply want my old lifestyle back of visiting my daughters and grandkids." I doesn't concern my half-brother or his wife. "We are doing things as usual here". And, a Senior couple we know in Florida, the husband told us "I refuse to get into the whole hype of this virus crap. I protect myself as much as possible, am fully retired with a nice monthly income of Pension and SS, but want to see American's go back to work. I want to go back to eating in restaurants!" So, where does leave us? We will continue to follow the Guidelines for a few more weeks (middle of May, at least). Our State (Colorado) Stay At Home order is suppose to expire this coming Sunday. Don't know what will happen.
Since we haven't cured the common cold or the flu, and even the flu vaccines are, as often as not, ineffective, it's unreasonable to expect a cure or the eradication of this bug. We're going to have to deal with it at some point. Perhaps we could do this easier if half the country wasn't unemployed and homeless.
