Tomorrow, May 8, is officially the day World War 2 in Europe ended. Some nations celebrate it on May 8th while others vary the dates as being Liberation Day. I remember this as I was 12 years old in 1945, and it seemed like it was New Years Eve. I can imagine what it must have been like in the U.K. and the other countries so affected by that war. I hope we all honor those whose lives were lost. Both military and civilian and pray we never see another of its likes again.

I sure remember that day well. My older sister was excited about her husband coming home from Europe.

The lady on the left is Queen Elizabeth as a young woman. PBS just had a documentary about her which was very interesting. Did you know she volunteered to help in the war effort and served during the war as a driver? Part of her training was doing vehicle maintenance. She was shown changing spark plugs. Lets see another monarch do that. You go girl!

I find it so hard to think of this happening 75 years ago today. It seems like yesterday. I was playing bridge with my mother, aunt and cousin when the announcement came. There went that bridge game. We all poured outside and my God, the cacophony from church bells, sirens and car horns was deafening. I remember hearing the song, The White Cliffs of Dover on one radio and began to tear up. Imagine how Europe felt. While we had air raids, we never had to run to bomb shelters nor duck bullets and the like. Germany did not have the air power to reach our shores. Our only problem with them was the U-Boats that constantly tried to hug our shores. We did have rationing and all else that goes with war time though.

I teared up with the above post, I can't believe my eyes when I see the destruction of bombing day after day, night after night
The common folk are heroes too …. they soldiered on and did what they could for the cause
I loved to see on VE day documentary, the sight of soldiers from all nationalities in the streets - a sight to behold, the
Americans of course, so stylish :)
