Australia has received international backing for an independent inquiry into coronavirus as its trade tensions with China face further strain. A draft resolution calling for impartial, independent and comprehensive evaluation of the responses to the pandemic has been co-sponsored by 62 countries, including India, Japan, Britain, Canada, New Zealand, Indonesia, Russia and all 27 EU member states. Most Australians admire what our leader Scott Morrison has done by going out on a limb in pushing this inquiry. China is bullying us by threatening extra trade tariffs and even trade sanctions over it. Australia's ace card is that China needs a lot of our resource material .. specially iron ore to produce its steel. Their people also love eating our meat and drinking our wine. Australia can open new markets but can China afford to antagonize us with the west quickly turning against it. Does the Free World led by America have the desire and most crucial the fortitude to send China into economic turmoil by refusing to buy their products.
I so much hope that all countries will now make a stand against China, they've had things their way far too long
I see more and more Americans asking where things are made now when shopping. There seems to be a rising resistance to buying Chinese goods, and people are ready for manufacturing jobs to return to the USA and other countries. I am hopeful that progress will be made in this; I truly hate that so much of our supply lines are controlled by the Chinese.
Yep, I'm questioning the whereabouts too but on Amazon the majority of products are from china and how innovative they are. I have no problem with the Chinese people, I respect their hardworking ethic and am amazed by their ingenuity, I have bought products I never knew existed and so grateful for them. But - I agree, we need to start manufacturing again, there is so much we could do ourselves. The China fat cats need to respect not only their own people but the rest of the World too and if we all take a stand, it may happen @Beth Gallagher
I already refuse to buy any Chinese food product, even for my dog before he died. It's really hard to find some products NOT made in China, but I am making more of an effort these days. I realize that most electronics are made there now, so if I want that new cellphone I'm pretty much going to have to put my principles on the shelf.
So, this morning, I am perusing my facebook groups, and came across this interesting bit of information about China. They have COCKROACH FARMS ! ! Let that sink in ! Guess what they are for.......yep.....FOOD ! Besides just having stir fried cockroach (they use the huge ones that we call water bugs here in the South), They also make protein powder and milk protein, which is supposed to have more protein that regular milk. The video that was posted showed the nice little containers of white “milk”, coming from the processing factory, and also a picture of a typical cockroach family dinner. This is a quick screenshot from the video, which was from China, and narrated in Spanish; so I really could not tell everything that was being said.
Okay, people...... I just watched another video about cockroaches in China, and it is very big business there ! They raise them in huge “farms”, and the cockroaches are not only used as food, but are put into cosmetics, and also into pharmaceuticals and drugs. This is definitely enough to make a person more determined to buy American ! !
Here here Patsy. As of this morning Sydney time more than 100 countries have supported Australia's stance. Finally Donald Trump has signaled America is with Scott Morrison too. The Free World turned China from a backwater decades ago to one of the world's strongest economies. We have the power to reverse that surely if we all stick together against this commie bully. Already Australia's barley farmers have snubbed their nose at the bully for imposing crippling tariffs on their produce by seeking out other markets. Four meat suppliers banned by the bully will do likewise. Like I say if the West remains steadfast we can vanquish China economically. Then it will have to come to heel or face total isolation.
There is a groundswell building here in Australia to take our factories out of mothballs and start manufacturing again. This idea morphed in March when emergency protection products plus patient breathing ventilators were badly needed but unavailable due to major supply lines blocked by China's closure. Scott Morrison said that is it.. we make our own. The people who invented the CPAP anti sleep apnoea breathing device, Australia's ResMed were asked to make thousands of ICU ventilators. Other businesses were asked to diversify and make masks, gowns and other protective gear for our doctors and nurses on the virus front line.. This got people of influence to demand Australia reopen its factories and resume manufacturing products we have been importing for decades. I am now hearing that these Aussie-made ventilators are in demand in other countries including the massive Indian market. So already there is one dent in the Chinese economy.
My son purchased a Chinese made television for me last year. I was grateful and told him so but questioned at the same time "why did you buy it from China Marc?" I knew the answer, because it was cheaper than others made in South Korea, Japan or Germany. This is the conundrum that the West is going to have to come to terms with if it is to usurp Chinese markets. If a Chinese mother has to resort to feeding her children cockroaches then workers have no choice but to slave for a minimal/minimum wage in Chinese factories or starve. It is up to western governments to insist that greedy importers first see if the product they want is available in their own backyard. If so then use it even tho it may be a little more expensive but likely of superior standard to the Chinese equivalent and is definitely not produced from slave labor .
How are you going to force the capitalists out of China?. Corporations are beholding to the stock holder. Plain and simple. Regardless of social, health or environmental costs.profit is supreme. The boards fiduciary duty is to maximize profit with out regard to any other influence. For almost 60 years now our own government has facilitated, encouraged and underwritten this flight. I don't want to hear that consumers will not pay the price for domestically produced merchandise. We have never been given the chance! The balance has tipped to far in capitols favor. Some major rebalancing needs to occur.
Well in my own little attempt to balance, I no loner buy from LL Bean. The only thing in their catalogue that's made in America is their LL Bean boots and some sneakers from New Balance.
